I must tell you now, as I face the reaper,
something so sad, this one is a weaper
The man, that you thought was so true,
wasn't so, as I had cheated on you
She gave me things, that you would not,
a friendship so deep and sex that was hot
Poetry, we'd share, she read into my words
Her laughter, was the sweetest, I'd heard
I returned to you, after letting her go
My heart would still ache for her, though
As years passed, she haunted me in dreams
My mind would replay, all of our love scenes
I love you, my dear wife, and I always will
I had to tell you this, haunting me still
As I take final breath, please hold my hand
and say, you forgive this cheating man

this is great.a man asking for forgiveness for a past indiscretion.the honest tone that this is written in makes it read as more that a story but as a soul confession.

hhhmmmm
Good write your pace is steady. What a time to confess such a thing though highly selfish, I mean its not like there would be any point in her killing him for it is it

Very heartfelt and sad write. I could see where this would be a type of need to get off someones chest for forgiveness, and yeah the cheating part is horrible on both sides, but I could see where the person would not want anything left for the significant other not to know about. Lots of luck in the contest!

This is a wonderful poem, but it hurts me just to think that some people put themselves in the position that they have to make a confession like that. Great writing and I wish you luck in the contest!!!

Cheating is a horrible thing I say this as both the cheater and the cheated. I know the pain it causes both sides. I know the reasons both try to come up with to excuse it... there never is a good one. I like the way you wrote this and that the man could not leave without that last bit of deserved honesty. Love it hun!!

One thing i never understood is that if you say you love someone, how could u think of cheating on them? please feel free to enlighten me on this 1 as i know i would never forgive a cheating man, great poem though

Not my place to enlighten you, but there are reasons I could tell you for cheating... none are justifiable but they are reasons nonetheless. You can be in love with someone and They in love with you but have a pitfall in your relationship (and I do not mean a month or two, i mean years) in which you are neglected or have other issues in the relationship .... You can try to resolve them but it doesn't mean the other party is willing to do so. You can leave but if you REALLY love them .... Leaving is a harder thing to do. Then there is this weakness. Whatever you are lacking.... emotional support for instance... you make a new friend of the opposite sex and they are there for you and you for them.... then you start having these feelings but you ignore them because you love your significant other.... then one night you go out with this friend to have fun you have one too many drinks and your judgement is off. You get into a conversation about that significant other... you start really venting about the situation..... you even cry .... the friend wipes your tears and gives you a hug.... The embrace lasts too long... as you both pull slowly away eye contact is made and raw emotion is evident in both.... and POOF you do the worst imaginable and your senses are so caught up you don't stop.
It happens. Again I do not justify it ... but you can love and make a mistake... yes.... even one so huge.
