I could be a butterfly
Social and full of grace
But snuggling in this box
Is really quite my pace
I could sing mellifluous
As pleasing as a lark
But I can’t find the tune
It sounds more like a bark
I could be a great poet
Following every rule
But that is so mundane
It borders on the cruel
I could write a fantasy
And put it in a book
But then I must compose
A story with a hook
I could roar like a lion
Ferocious and intense
But snoozing in the sun
Is much less an offense
I could be a busy bee
Completing every task
But it would be a lie
I’d rather fill my flask

Yes!
I second Cannonsfire's comment. Couldn't have said it better. In fact, it merits repeating:
"This just sings of being content with life, letting it wash over us and enjoying it all."
Loved the line about the lion. Yeah, why shouldn't we just enjoy life for it's own sake, not just when we're achieving something? Whitman said the same thing in Leaves of Grass. i.e., "I am content just as I am."
Great stuff!

Thanks, Mark!

Isn't it wonderful when poetry just is born? No thought at all just spilling on the page and someone understands them even if the author does not. This just sings of being content with life, letting it wash over us and enjoying it all.

I don't know what to say but this is wonderful! It has great insight on individualism I think. A kind of this is me and that's how it is....I don't know how to explain it. I especially like:
I could be a great poet
Following every rule
But that is so mundane
It borders on the cruel
It drives me crazy sometimes...rules on an individual's creativity?? How is that right?
Anyway, I think it's a great write and I really enjoyed reading it!

Wow, thanks Michele. You have excellent insight yourself there.
I've always been one to say, 'This is me, take it or leave it'.
As for poetry - Putting restrictions on creativity, (in my opinion), is absurd. While learning is never a bad thing, it shouldn't be forced upon us. The same with constructive criticism; it's just dandy when one has asked for such.
But poetry is the evocation of feeling; and to me, when it comes from the heart, it matters little whether it is in the proper metrical form or not. Creativity should not be stifled by rules.
Thanks for stopping by, Michele!
