Sell Me A Dream

Love is reserved for fairytales
and lands of make believe

Love is just a misplaced word
that causes one to grieve

There is no such thing as ‘I love you’
‘You mean the world to me’

It is merely reserved for fools
who believe in the merchants dream

The fool says, 'Yes, Oh Yes! I do believe!'
'I know there is such a thing!'

And with a sly little grin
the merchant is in...

To sell the fool a dream

A "bit" on the cynical side but an awesome poem, and I would daresay true most of the time. But I still hold out belief that there's a little magic left somewhere, probably where people are more old fashioned (if such a place exists anymore) and have fewer choices due to lack of looks or circumstances.

I once met a woman who told me she wanted to marry an ugly, poor man because a handsome, rich one would be more likely to cheat on her. That was one of the saddest things I've ever heard, and a sad statement on the modern world.

    You're a great writer.

    Mark

Wow. I'm honoured by your praise and momentarily speechless...

Thank you. You're a fantastic writer yourself.

While I agree, this piece does have a cynical flavour to it, the title truly speaks of my heart. When it comes to love, I'm willingly and happily the fool. As long as one keeps their heart open, that magical place does, indeed, exist.

    ahhh but......

the dream of the fool is worth every minute he's lost in it. Better a sad dreamer than to have never lived inside a fairy tale. Excellent poem!

I really do love this write. Fools do fall in love, unfortunatly, I am one of them... But yeah. I actually like this because many people fall head-over-heels for guys or girls and obsess over them. They make them their world. And in the end. that world they created from this emotion comes crashing down and all they can do is mope about it. It's best not to stick to a person and become such a fool. As I would say, Avoid the cling.

    Wonderful write. :]

      Hello iiFeLLintoAhole,

I'm glad you enjoyed my poem. And yeah, I'm a fool too. Sometimes love yanks our hearts out, but I've always been one to never give up hope. Sell me that dream, I'm buying. [heh]
