Memories of you fill my head
It hurts so bad to know you're dead
I look at your pictures every day
In my heart you will always stay
I've cried so many bitter-sweet tears
Remembering sixteen wonderful years
You were always so happy and free
Thrilled just to be there with me
Our separations were always sad
But the reunions joyous and glad
I would call your name, you'd sit and stare
Then jump into my arms to show you care
Although the words you never spoke
I know your love was no joke
Even my dreams you still fill
I love you now and always will
If you visit me from time to time
It is for you I write this rhyme
Some say these words you are unable to read
But their advice I will not heed
For if written words make no sense
I know love will cross that fence
With this poem my love I send
To you Rusty, my canine friend

that is such a sad story. i've never been as close to a dog but i had a kiten that i was incrediably fond of. then our husky bit it int he neck and my step dad had to finish killing it so it wouldn't be in pain. i was soooooo sad. i really loved that lil kitten. but this is a wonderful expression of the love of a pet. great write

This one is a tear jerker, it reminds me of my dog Bosstin. -
I lost my little friend in 1998 on Christmas eve, and it still hurts. You've penned it so well. X

A great tribute
I don't know what you were worried about because this is a fantastic tribute to dear Rusty. It does show a more sentimental side and is still a very potent and touching poem. Rusty will be touched too :-)
