Sorrow; please drain away from my unhappy being.
Let the rain pour on me
Its soft fragrance of disease and refinement.
Let me be for a small moment of lapsed time.
Sorrow; release me from your stronghold.
Death, embrace me for a moment.
Kiss my brow and caress my sickly form.
Allow me to become unborn.
Take Sorrow out of my bleary-eyed sight.
Death, bring me into the cold rain.
Heaven let your creatures sing beauty.
Take me into your golden gates
And surround me in your pleasant rain.
Let your clouds gather round me.
Heaven, kiss my soul’s undying pain.
Life, free me!
Let Death embrace me with his icy fingers.
Let his hood be drawn back
So that I may look into his fiery eyes.
Keep sorrow out of my dying sleep.
Life let Death have what is his to keep.
Grave, so solid and set in stone
Allow me to make my final atonement.
Open your dark dirt beneath my unsteady feet.
Swallow me whole as I leave Life’s grasp and hold.
And enter Death’s grace.
Grave, take the joy and turn my sorrow to stone.
Grave, take care of me
For Death has left and I find myself very much alone.
Life, why did you let me go so willingly?
Why did I trust him so easily?
Life, I miss your light.
Grave, when will it finally be daybreak
And the end of this dreary night?
Death, you promised to take Sorrow out of sight!
Where have you gone?

I like the way you portray death as a kiss of relief to the sick. Often it is blessed relief for those who truly suffer phyically. I also like how you follow tht with embracing death for other reasons and then regretting it. So many times the sad see death as a release for momentary passing events and do not see it as a permanent fix for a temporary problem. Beautiful expression of two ideals.
