Impressions & Paths

Should your life be the doorway with a welcome mat
with arrivals and departures both wonderful and sad
leaving impressions on your mind and paths with tact,
only the most genuine souls would be the ones that
leave an imprint on your heart that will hold your back.

With a sense of gaiety recognized by so many
and the heart of a saint singing soulfully and pretty,
she was the oil in our lamps keeping our sights steady,
the sun to our garden shining life and prosperity.

Not afraid to be candid, not afraid to be absurd,
Not afraid to shout out loud so her voice can be heard,
she was cordial and kind, and her endearment preserved
the hearts and minds that she touched with her words.

If only I had the fortunate chance to make
a proper farewell to the one that keeps me awake,
the hardest thing is finding what to say,
so I look up to the heavens, hold my hands and pray
that someone is looking down at me on this old day.
