...on reading.
tentatively
i touch fingertip
to tongue
and slip the page
peeling
one leaf from
the other
i slide
my palm flat
across
each smoothing sheet
into her spine
each crease
gently spreading
a virgin binding
here
my gaze awaits
a longing view
upon
these written words
which compel and renew
as i once again
vanish and am
rediscovered
within some other
sphere

Lovely
This truly describes the beauty of reading in a beautiful and sensual way,
"gently spreading a virgin binding"
Did you mean to say it like that *
* ?
That was a great line.

I am a voracious reader and you captured the essence of that love perfectly. Nail on the head here:
"as i once again
vanish and am
rediscovered
within some other
sphere"
Love it, bookmarking.

There is nothing like reading a good book. I too lose myself in the pages. When I am reading a very good book, I hate to see it end. I want to keep that magic alive. This poem gives expression to all those feelings. What a wonderful poem. I love it.

-
Oh I love this one! You have captured my feelings exactly on reading! I love to read as much as I love to write. I sit here with my lap top and read poems with a novel for back up sitting by my side! lol
Great minds think alike! A wonderful read!
Blessings,
Frogz~

Dear ~r.
You did such a wonderful job with this, it is romantic, sensual and I wanted more. Only you can make reading a book a sexual experience.

"Within some other sphere"
That is so true! Many wonder how I can read as much as I do, but the fact is that it's a way to escpae normality. Very well done.

wonderful words with a agreat touch of universal flavour...you have a pure heart of the poet here wherein I find your muse is just revealing the poetic expression bringing the beauty of the universal rythem to interpret the meaning of life and meaning of the truth as well..Indeed a beautiful poem with so much intensity and with so much brevity here..

This is a beautiful piece you have penned. I normally like the left alignment; but the centering works well here. Very soft, simple and touching. I am glad to have clicked this...
-

Such a sensual relationship with books. I feel exactly the same way about books. I love opening them and getting wrapped up in a new world.

Love it! It expresses for me, anyway, exactly how I feel about books. (I am a librarian!) It is a sensual thing to open a new book and smell and feel the endless posibility within the covers. To feast upon new ideas and new places. Oh, Shepherd, wonderfully done! And the title was the perfect 'bait' for me Thank you, thank you! Rhonda

this sums up my passion when i start a new book.i don't just start in reading,i sniff the pages ,i flip the pages, and i prepared myself for the mental journey a good book always takes me on.this sums it up so very well.

new books are especially entoxicating, the excitement and the adventure of opening a book is so much like finding a friend you've known all your life, for the first time.
-
-
You almost had me sniffing the pages!

"It is not true we have only one life to love, if we can read, we can live as many lives and as many kinds of lives as we wish."
I am not sure who said that but it's a quote that hangs in my library as I am an avid reader. I like the way you brought this to life. It leaves me with that "ahhh" effect, if you know what I mean. I can actually see a poem such as this formulating as one sits at a library desk, viewing all the journeys that lie before you within spined page after page. Great words Richard!
