Blessed

I was blessed
by darkness
so I could know the light.
I was touched
by pain and grief
so I'd know what joy was like.
I have seen
the gathering clouds
and watched as raindrops fell.
But they only
sought to show me
just how warm the sunlight felt.
I've suffered through
the fall of love
the heartbreak of the end,
the broken dreams
the sting of tears,
the loss of faithful friends.
I consider all
these bitter things
a blessing in disguise.
For if my wings
were never broken
I'd never try so hard to fly.

This is awesome. The first few lines really spell out so beautifully a thought that I've felt for a very long time. Those who never experience pain and sadness never know what true happiness and joy is.

I can see here how the spirtuality of the heart can save the light even when you are in the darkness and this is the story of the soul of a humanbeing which is always there to help you to design a course of life..this is indeed a wonderful concept to make you understand the role of sadness vs happiness here.. well done...

    Profound

This piece is dripping with grace and wisdom.  How very true, it is life's trials and the pushing through them that lead us to the realization of how truly blessed we are and just how precious life truly is. I have to say, I let out a bit of a whimper at the end and my eyes stung with tears.  It is my hope that the masses can feel this way for, it saddens me to think that many will not. I adore this piece!! Bravo, my soulful friend.

Very few people realize that without the pain and suffering we wouldn't no how well we have it made. I love this poem because it shows that through every word that is written. I am blessed to fight for the rights of this country because I know what its like without the freedom that we have.

An enjoyable write; the comparison of opposing experiences does give us a greater appreciation of the blessings God has for us; nicely done. Maybe you would like my poem "Eternal Wellspring". --Joe

    I almost feel sleepy!

This was very much befitting the contest and on its own its a great poem with a beautifully true message.

Loved reading this, its real food for thought.

    My favourite part of this,

    "I've suffered through
    the fall of love
    the heartbreak of the end,
    the broken dreams
    the sting of tears,
    the loss of faithful friends."

Great rhythm and pace in those lines.

    Kind regards
    Previn

It's good that we think that the soul soars because amidst all the pain and sorrow we may be touched with during our lives, we can still find an indomitable will to go on.
