Of Diamonds and Moonbeams

Missing image
~

A waxing moon
              wakens

to paint her slender smile
onto the sumptuous cobalt canvas
of a midnight sky
lavishly sprinkled with
                twinkling topaz

while mother-of-pearl tears
drift down from
dreamland’s crystalline cache

ghost trees
no longer crowded with leaves
dance in her opaline sheen

as winter whispers
through lace-lined fingers

drizzling diamond dust
along icy edges of
              indigo streams

vague ivory vapors rise
like ephemeral phantoms
from water warmer than air

it is here I remain
        in peaceful stillness

savoring

          each delicate composition

listening

          to unspoken sounds

reveling

          in a symphony
                  of silent serenity

~

    Sweet Lady...

It warms my heart (pardon the play on words, ) that you enjoyed the evening out in the snow, dear friend! Silly me...standing out in the cold (it was 18 below zero), mouth agape, staring at this scene! Well, that explains the cold I have now! LOL!!! Again, your words touch my heart, as always. I'm so happy you enjoyed the gentle romp! Much love and laughter to you, dear one. I SO love ya!!

    Brilliant!

Oh, this is absolutely beautiful in all the colours of magnificence, Mary. I so loved the touches of alliteration throughout this poem....reading this is like having a snowflake falling on the tongue where it lingers and melts... So utterly beautiful, peaceful serene this winter wonderland you've painted here - and what a word painter you are. I wish I could find the words, but I think they also want to just listen to the humming and the hush of beauty. Wonderful, beautiful...I feel like thanking you for this tranquil still life, this symphony of talent... WOW!!

I love snow!! This was a terrific tribute to the snow as it drifts down and covers the waiting arms of trees! Great job. Good luck in our contest.

      Jeannie & James...

You love snow? I have 4 feet of the white stuff, here in Colorado, with 6-10 foot drifts. Would ya like me to ship ya some? LOL!! Again, thanks so very much for your "warm" words, and the kindness. I'm so happy you liked it! Love and laughter to you both.

What a gorgous piece! Illustrates the forested twilight so well. The ghostly starkness of the
trees made to sound lovely as well in their moonlit dance.~~Suseann

      Suseann...

Thank you so much, Sweetie! I'm so glad you enjoyed the "twilight." Crazy me...standing outside watching this scene unfold at 18 degrees below zero! Seemed warm though...such a slight breeze. Anyway, Thanks again, dear friend. Much love to you!

Absolutly beautiful... the imagery is awesome, the poem soothing and inspiring. In fact it inspired me to write a poem for a picture I took the winter before I moved from Seattle to Phoenix ...then I remembered I never scanned it I need to find it and do the scanning thing.
Your poem reminds me of the beauty of ice crystals defining trees, spiderwebs, hanging icesickles, all sorts of wintery beauty.
I miss that, living here in Phoenix, though for the last few days we've had freezing nights here, very unusual for this area... but it still doesn't compare to Washington.

Good luck in the contest, this is a very deserving poem

    Elegant!

This poem engulfs the reader with gems that are brightly displayed. You surely showed us the beauty in nature. I love the night sky and the trees where limbs reach to praise the heavens. There are stunning lines written in this poem my dear. This is one of the most serene works I've read in quite a while. I love your sense of detail and how you construct beauty piling line upon line. As I said; ELEGANT!

I wish you the very best in this challenge but according to the peace and calm I am left with after reading you have penned a winner!

    Always Lovingly ♥

      Brother-O-Mine...

Timothy...how absolutely wonderful to see you back gracing my pages again, dear man. I have SO missed your presence here at AP. It's just not the same without my dear brother! I am so very happy you enjoyed this offering so much. Silly me...standing out on the riverbank at 10 at night in the cold. It was 18 below, and the steam was rising up off the river.... So beautiful, I just had to run in and write it down. Thanks so much for the kindness, dear man. So good to see you back! Much love to you, my dear Timothy!!

My sweet Mary, what a lovely vision.... also, I feel the serenity in your beautiful work of art. Not only is "ghost trees" stunning, but the opaline sheen makes you want to melt in the gorgeous vision.... I say melt, lol...even though the coldness of winter filters through. It's as if I'm bundled head to toe, standing in the silent serenity, with my eyes closed and listening intently and yes savoring.... Beautiful sweetie! Best of luck in the contest, again your talent shines! Much love and hugs your way dear one, Annie
