Why do I write poetry?
to cheer you
to inspire you
to enlighten you
to express my opinions
to make you think
to make you feel
to make you dream
to make you laugh
to make you cry
to enhance your life
to teach you
to amuse you
to take you to new horizons
to show the creativity words can bring
but most of all its fun and fulfilling
so come along with me for the ride
let's write, let's read
let's gather friends
and if perchance we collect a trophy or two along the way
it shows our talent is appreciated
Come on now let's go write some poetry!!!!
to cheer you
to inspire you
to enlighten you
to express my opinions
to make you think
to make you feel
to make you dream
to make you laugh
to make you cry
to enhance your life
to teach you
to amuse you
to take you to new horizons
to show the creativity words can bring
but most of all its fun and fulfilling
so come along with me for the ride
let's write, let's read
let's gather friends
and if perchance we collect a trophy or two along the way
it shows our talent is appreciated
Come on now let's go write some poetry!!!!

Thank you for your entry.
You have clearly stated some of the reasons why you write poetry and in doing so you describe what is, for you, the point of poetry. However I was disappointed at the lack of reference to other poets and their poems and an answer to the general question what is the point of poetry.
This is a pity as your piece taken in isolation is praiseworthy but it fails to answer my question.

Old Poetry
Thanks for comment and comp but as this was a prewrite entry that's why it did not refer to other poets/poetry sorry, but yet it otherwise fit your contest that is why I entered, I am sorry it couldn't satisfy all you wanted but it did come close enough to warrant trying, however I am glad you liked it on it's own merit anyway.

This is inspiring. I love your definition for why you write poetry. I think it is something everyone can relate too. I often say poetry is theraputic.

Hey, GREAT description of exactly why you write... you have indeed made an impression! Today poetry is filled with depression or love, so this was refreshing to hear something "trivial", if it can be called that.
Good job, and hey...
you've been Hood-Winked!

This poem makes me smile. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside to be called a poet alongside you. Thank you for making me think and feel and dream and laugh - that's what poetry's all about.

haha. This was neat! Very cute. Almost like a cheer! I enjoyed reading all the reasons cuz I guess deep down, all of us who write have one or more, maybe even all of those reasons for doing so. You nailed it with the fulfilling part. Thanks for sharing your work. I loved it. Reminded me once again, why I do what I do and love it so much. Wonderful poem.
