In Stages

I'm brand new to this world
Untouched by sorrow and anger
Helpless in terms of myself
A sign of new hope for others

I'm just learning the basics
The difference between right and wrong
What makes me smile
And what makes me cry

I'm still young and free
A sign of innocence for my elders
Still fascinated by the wonders of the world
Still easily amused by life's little things

Nothing is fair
I don't know who I am
Searching for my soul and true friends
For something I can understand and relate to

I aspire to be someone great
To make a difference in the lives of others
To find my soulmate
To save myself from pain and loneliness

My body grows old
My spirit is young
My heart beats strong
I take joy in the small things

I become young at heart
Slowly fading from time
A memory slowly slipping
A body slowly dying

I'm at peace with myself
A life of pain, happiness, anger, and love
A soul that was lost but found
It all ends in a flash

As life fades to blackness
Another is new to this world
Another sign of hope
Someone to save the lives of others
Maybe even your life

Please tell me what you think

    Profound!

A deep & fitting poem you penned here of the stages of life. I loved the flow, your choice of words & the feeling you bring to each stage of life. This was a very vivid expression & I could identify with all. Well done dear!

      Thanks.

Wow, I forgot I even wrote this poem. I even read it and wondered if it was mine. Haha...you reminded me that I wrote this. It was an earlier poem of mine.

Good write, it's got lots of depth and insight, and leaves the reader thinking, especially after the last, most superb line. Very well done, it leaves a bit of an impression, the emotion behind the words is very poweful. Well done! I can really feel this piece. It speaks to me.
