Beginning Again - HM

Missing image
Spirits raise their eyebrows
and on high horizon, angels appear;
one’s with real names, with histories,
with memories of who I was, once
upon a lost lullaby.

Angels raise their voices
and on the line, a foregone conclusion,
you were always there; the crone of caution
I had cried for long after tears fell
for a million other reasons.

Gods ground out a certain mold
and fills it with differences.

In spite of it all, we are so similar:
Look at these poems...they could be mine.
Look at how you survived over and over,
never forgiving yourself
until what is lost or found
crawls back on your lap again.

These are second chances:
New beginnings back on old paths.

Sing it to me, again, mother.
Carry me back to an old place to start again.

Author notes

The end of Septemeber, I had the profound experience of being found by birth mother and twelve siblings...talk about new beginnings.

I can not begin to tell youw hat it has meant to me...this sacred one great wish every adopted child has...and she is so beautiful, her books and books of colelctions ofquotes and poems were given to me. You know, I only looked at the first one..I can hardly bear to read them. I will let myself read them when I dare. Isn't that silly? Perhaps I am afraid of what I will read and will not be able to stop crying again.

That's got to be an incredibly emotional experience, I can't even imagine. I hope everything works out well for you. Your poem is beautiful. "Carry me back to an old place to start again." That is my favorite line. Great job!

To find your birth mother after so long a time must be an amazing and very emotional experience . . . I love the line "until what is lost or found crawls back on your lap again" . . . stunning.

And I did just about that in the Cumberland Nursing Home. she nearly dragged me down onto her lap int he wheelchair. But I did lay my head on her breast and hear her heartbeat.
