Something is different here.
All the trees outside my window look the same,
the furniture is all in the same place,
but something is different.
The board has been reset.
Here I sit,
back at square one.
I take a look around,
at my fellow pawns.
They all look familiar.
We all share the feeling.
We all have the urge to move.
I've made it to the otherside of the board,
but now I'm back at the start.
And it's not the same.
Something is different.
All the people have the same names,
they all have the same personalities,
but we've all moved on in some way.
Something is different.
The board will be reset again.
And we will all move forward again.
One day, the players will leave
and the board will be allowed to play itself out.
So until then
I'll march forward,
but in my mind
never lose sight of square one.
Author notes
When you break it all down, life's nothing more than a game of chess.
A reflection on returning home.

I really like this. You have a very unique style of writing. I like how the line 'Something is different" is repeated. You get the meaning of the poem across well, and it's almost as if you want to hide your emotions. Also, I think your authors notes, would actually have fit in well into the poem.
=] Beautiful poem.
