Oh! What a Christmas party we had this year.
Dad was drunk; he had too much beer.
He decided to dance on a living room chair, oh dear;
Toppled over; landed on the jelly; what a cheer!
My uncle had his jelly with cream ever so thick.
Suddenly, he left the room rather quick.
My grinning cousin said that he had been sick.
Later, he was helped to bed by Bob and Dick.
My mum sat and drank her cup of tea,
Saying, "Men can't hold their drink, you see.
Does anybody want to see that film on TV?
I saw it last year; it was so funny."
Alistair and Sue wanted to dance all night
Twisting and swaying left and right,
Until he crashed into the tree - what a fright!
The angel fell off and out went the light.
The music was loud and it was hard to talk.
My nanny was tired and went for a walk.
My son bellowed out, "Let's play Monopoly!"
The rest of the family did not agree.
Dad decided to play a game of cards
But mum said that she would rather play charades.
Great nanny nodded but she was asleep.
My uncle came downstairs, stood on the dog and made it leap,
Saying, "Was it the jelly or the amount of whisky?"
We had a discussion but we could not agree.
Some people muttered that the room was too hot;
Others complained that the music was too quiet.
The children played with their presents and toys.
They laughed and screamed, adding to the noise.
Midnight approached and we danced and talked.
Midnight past and we drank and staggered.
So one by one we found our beds.
The laughing quietened and we rested our heads.
Suddenly dad mumbled, "You didn't play cards with me."
Well, that's his favourite game, you see.

Too cute, loved the flow of this write! And the way you brought all the family into this write was awesome!!!!!!
I always have loved this time of year
Money always so tight, but children never fight! They end up with used thing under our tree, we just tell them "santa get's hand me downs too!" They just smile, they knew, money was tight, but weren't about to make a fight! They always are such wonderful kids, I wish we could do more.
Thank you for entering my very first contest! I really have enjoyed this, and it's given my kids things to read, they love reading, you see?!!!!

This poem attempts to show reality at family parties. The food is organised but people tend to do their own thing. Parties rarely turn out right for everyone! Merry Christmas to all of you! May your Christmas day be really happy and wonderful.
