The paper chase continues

I've written for many years and it's a task
Papers, fill a lot of boxes that are old and yellow
Each one there tells of a story of what life once was
Pockets full of memories that are reaching for me

Each one is looking for a life and each sings its own song
So as this writer is getting older with age now reaches
There he's trying hard to find some special magic there
Now there's one story much sadder there than all the others

There's so much in common between the story and writer
Cries out to me..."Give me a life and how I'd love to be seen
I'm a message unspoken but not of my own accord here"
Maybe someone out there really wants to know me"

Please let me go and it's time for me to finally be free
Well, this writer with a tear in his eyes finally laments
You've spent your time and I sure hate to see you go now
But I know how you feel, so go and do what you have to do

You're a story and now make a difference...weave that magic
Do...what I've been trying for years to do...just teach
Take whatever what life gives and even smile when it hurts
Love, when there's none to give, stay, when others run

Now this writer has seen what he's done and then he smiles
Its what he has wanted to do and will do...now I thank you
Now as life goes on, there's still stories there to be told
Lets get going here now, for the paper chase continues...

Beautiful thoughts on poetry; the need to write poetry is a need to tell stories. I particularly loved what you said about memories and poetry in lines four and five. There's a heap of great advice in the second last stanza.

    Thanks for entering!
