Truth No More [English Sonnet]

Who died to slip beyond the shores of earth
to climb the bridge we built between the stars,
to weave the sands that line the sounds of breath,
to swim beneath the seas that trouble Mars.
The vanquished eye is mind, and winds may prove
on streams forgotten, others moved by it,
whose essences are vapour in their love;
whose soul's obsessed with self in opposite.
The key unshackles chains that never were,
and hands are held so fondly far apart;
so each may bear the meaning they prefer
and draw towards the close before the start.
To sleep within the wake of nevermore:
When eyes have dried and see the truth no more.

Please tell me what you think

    Poe~esque

    "To sleep within the wake of nevermore:" beautiful, your message evoked by sometimes conradictory words is tantalizing and worth reading again to savor the imagery created. I especially like "The keys unshackle chains that never were" Isn't that the truth? We can sometimes bind ourselves more that steel links ever could and only we can throw off those imaginary chains. A lovely work, adore the softly abstact background also Deb

    Lovely write. I especially enjoyed the image in the first four lines from the top. I just thought it didn't seem to work with the rest of the piece so much. it's just my impression but that may be just because I am not quite sure what you were really saying in the lines. At first, they seem to have little or no meaning. Something tells me that isn't so, however. They just didn't seem consistent with what I got from the rest of the poem. Also, "The keys unshackle chains that never were" seems awkward because you are saying that keys unchackle chains and it gives the reader that image but then you say they never were. What do the keys unshackle there? What happened to that? You know what I mean? Heh, well I think I didn't notice anything else that confused me so I will just shut up now. I do love your ability to show as opposed to just telling.
