A soft wind licks my eyes awake
as the cool, autumn breeze chills the surrounding air.
I roll to my side, reaching for the covers
to warm myself back up,
when I see him sleeping beside me,
his chest rising and falling, rising, falling,
a melodious beat that eases me.
I prop my head in my hands
watching the silhouette of the moon,
grazing his face, defining his features.
My fingers run across his upper arm,
over the firm, smooth skin that warms my tips,
and I place a soft kiss on his shoulder.
I cuddle up behind him,
sliding my arm across his belly.
His heart thump-thumps like a distant drum,
his breath brings harmony to the night,
and I doze back off in the silver moonlight,
clutched to the only one I wish to wake with.
