Sanity you speak of

Its sanity you speak of,
something that means you dont have
the courage or want
to be insane.

It means your mind
doesnt trickle
with thoughts said to be sins
in some unknown God or Tyrant eyes.

To be frowned upon
by society
because they want to blend in
and be different but the same.

Im insane
I addmit
I'm completely mad.
I'm different than you.

Frown upon me
tell me Im going to Hell
because when I get there and tell satan why
I know he'll laugh at what man has become.

And perhaps then
both Heaven and Hell will decide
they both are satified
of this "sane" race.

Then will you still call me insane

for the dreams I dream,

for the thoughts I think

for the words I utter?

Whom is truly insane,

whom has had their sanity test so closely?

whom is truly sane,

and their sanity thought of so sorely.

What about the child abusers,

the pedophiles,

the mentally and physically handicapped

are they all insane too?

Wouldnt it be safer to say

everyone is insane

for the thoughts we think are different

than anyone elses?

Hmm. You know I've often wondered when one goes from being slightly mentally disturbed to insane. Does an insane person recognise they're insane? On one hand it would make sense if they did and on another it would not. If a person is insane and recognises it then they must still have a relative grasp on reality making them at least partially capable of functioning in society, but if they do not recognise it then they do not have that knowledge and thus cannot cope outside of an asylum/with medical help. However, knowing people who have been in institutions I find they are, as a general rule, rather mentally stable. In fact they seem to have a better grasp on the world than a lot of people who society sees as "perfectly sane".
Forgive me I'm rambling, the question you pose is quite an interesting one.
The only trouble i had was reading it due to the background, while appropiate, it was a little much on the eyes.
    Congrats on a wonderful poem.

Sanity , I don't put allot of faith in the concept , I've steped of the edge far to often into places my mind and heart should not dwell . We each have are own way of dealing with reality or the lack of it . Who can judge who can say . Storm
