The Tune is Happy

Waking up, I haven't many aches,
just the usual, and that must be good.
Coffee in the pot, the sound it makes,
aroma smells so rich, just as it should.
The morning quiet through the neighbourhood
reminds me, peace is grounds for gratitude,
and smiling, I have found a happy mood.

The morning moves apace, I wake them up,
but with my happy smile, they don't complain.
I savour one, and then another cup.
My happiness is easy to explain,
each reason is so simple and mundane -
once all my basic human needs are met,
I can't find any reason for upset.

I grant you, that frustrations of the day
may shake me up, till anger makes me fume,
but in a while the feelings pass away
and pleasant thoughts float in. As I resume
my work at home, there's peace in every room.
My life is like a song to suit my voice,
the tune is happy, for that is my choice.

    Perfection

I like everything about this. In fact, I think I'll put on some coffee now as skipped this a.m. since a little queasy. I love the border and your ending is powerfully strong. LOVE IT!

Thanks again, Joan. Even when there is a conflict, like today, I can step back and enjoy the blessings in my life, like good friends and small comforts.

I love the smell of coffee when it's freshly made.... yummy... I'm a coffee-holic to be sure lol.

This is a sweet poem... delightful to read. You seem very happy with your life, it shows through your words... this is well written and has a nice flow to it.

I prefer to be happy. I have a lot of reasons not to be, but misery sucks, so I do that "Ignorance Is Bliss" thing. I find joy in those little things. A glass of moxie, a silly comment here on AP, a silly joke on a sitcom. I get a smile sometimes just noticing the incongruity of my books in perfect alphabetical order in an otherwise horribly disordered house.

I'm not going to be sad long, not if there is the least bit of light showing through the crack in the misery surrounding me.

So I guess what I mean is, "Amen to what you wrote."

      Wise, wise Ima

      Thanks for applause!
Absolutely right, "misery sucks". When we realize that our own thinking makes us miserable and not the conditions of life (which are better than those of many other people who manage to be happy anyway), we have the key to lasting happiness.

I'm happy that you are pleased, Kari. I made this background, and the poem too.

What a lovely, delightful poem, Margaret. I had to smile from the very beginning where you speak of so few aches and coffee. Funny, but when I awaken, I walk to the bathroom with my eyes closed and back out with them still closed. Until I find my way to the coffee maker to turn it on, my eyes remain closed. Good thing Skipper knows the way out the door.

I love this, my friend. It brought a wonderful smile to my face. Hugs, Patricia
