You have hunted me untill I am almost no more.
You've killed my young, destroyed my home,
Forgot I to belong.
I lived in the wild, I did not bother you.
I took only what I needed to live, the same as you.
You feared me so you sought to kill me.
Why was my coat so important to you,
And not the rest of me?
Have I not been punished enough,
That you feel you must cage me
In order to undo the damage you have done?
Why do you think I'm not important?!...
Now you have even taken my
Freedom!!!

SAD, SO SAD
The wolf has always stood for wisdom and strength. The wolf is a great example of a family animal, they take extra care of their young and the packs are truly a family in every sense. I just saw where in Yellowstone park they once again have opened up the hunting of wolves.

Thumbs Up!!!
Yes, the wolf has spoken truths. An absolutely captivating work you've created, just as captivating as observing the wolf in it's dwindling environment.

I love this poem so much. I choked up a little and I have feel the same way as you do. Wolves are such a beautiful creature, and like you replied to in a comment, they are so much like man, himself. This poem is definitely one of the best I've read on AllPoetry. Great job!

niaish my new friend for the kind words and it warms my heart to know you honor the wolf as i do...thank you so much for touch praise

Wonderfully written, a shame when we endanger a species, we need hold it captive for breeding program until there are sufficient raised that they may once more be released. Only problem is if animals are raised by man, how do we know how they will manage and if they will be safe when reintegrated into society? Your poem raises much highlight and many questions sweet sister, Niaish/thanks for sharing! Morning Dove

This is the one I love the most
This is the one that touched my heart the most. The wolf has always been my favorite animal. I wanted to cry when I read this. I read it on your profile and I was hoping I could find it in your poetry list to tell you how much I enjoyed this poem. Such a beautiful poem -

i am named from this wolf...they are the most hated of all simple because they are so much like man himself
Im thrilled you feel the same as I do

Thank you.
I grew up reading a comic book called "ElfQuest". That is where my love of wolves began. The creators of the comic book are always striving to save the wolf from disappearing forever.

I liked how you wrote this from the aspect of the wolf. The first line really drew me in..great start to a great poem.
-
I love wolves... no animal should have to suffer

How were you able to enter this poem in three different contest at once? Nevermind that, It was a good poem, your rhythm was spot and the issue of which you bring up is a terrible one. I must say, thank you for pointing it out to people (such as me) who have had no idea what kind of troubles lie ahead for these poor creatures. Thank you so much for your kind entry and good luck.
-
Excellent
This fills me with rage because humans can be so damn cruel and evil. I love that you have written this poem in defense of these beautiful spiritual wolves. I'm glad i read this piece thankyou for sharing it.

This is beautiful
The plight of the wolves is dire. To think of such beautiful creatures hunted and killed just because people fear them, farmers malign them, It is a true way that things are for our brother wolf, and we should embrass them into our spirits, and hold them dear to us as all who walk on this land are important. It is awful to think how God's creatures are mistreated and hunted down and killed for the heck of it sometimes... someones idea of a good time I guess. This is very sad, but true and you have brought it to the forefront with this wonderful piece! Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest!
Blessings,

Well Done!
This is very sad and true. It's too bad that these beautiful creatures are hunted and killed every day for no good reason. Hopefully one day man will be able to see the beauty of these animals and let them live their lives in peace. Great points here! Thanks for sharing this piece!

Agreed
I am a wolf fanatic, adn I agree. but with the last lines of the poem, at vwe are DOING SOMETHING to correct our wrongs instead of just letting those beautiful creatures die out completely. Good Job -
very sad
this is a very sad but true write with us, good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing this with us

jadon recommended I read this write, I'm so glad that he did. I like yourself am very aware of what the human race is capable of regarding wildlife. This is an exceptional piece written with deep feeling and comes with it a warning , that if we don't soon start to hear what mother nature is trying so hard to tell us We shall lose everything. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of your readers and with luck many who don't yet know you will stop by to read and take heed.....mal

The wolf a valuable creature to native americans. It is a guide that roams once free without fear of man. Now, it runs in fear with a image that people feel is a monster. They are a beautiful animal to be respected. Wonderful write with soul and truth with the words of compassion.

Simple but powerful
Thank you for your contest submission. Nice simple flow with a powerful message. Good Luck -
Great job. Sad it is. To see the destruction of nature all around us. Keep that pen to the paper. Keep writing.
-
I see much more than wolves in this poem. I think this can be an incredible metaphor about much that has been lost. Great job!!!!!

-
Well spoken!
I noticed your poem has prompted many intelligent, well thought responses. This is the first poem of yours I have read and I like very much your manner of expression and the thoughts you shared.
The line that stood out for me was "Why was my coat so important to you, And not the rest of me?" Living here in a city, I have seen the skins decorating walls and couches. Each once a living creature.
You speak of one animal and yet you speak for them all and our attitude/relationship with all creatures. We have a stewardship (boring word) to care for and exist with all creatures. Our technology driven life brings us comforts and yet technology is not alive and we need to respect that which is.
You are well spoken. Your words have struck a feeling within me. I thank you. I will carry your thoughts and think about them

Oh SO SAD
This is so sad...the beautiful wolf! This poem has beautiful flow...amazing and touching...it is so sad as well. I love animals, and they should not be treated badly no living thing should.

-
Nicely Done!!
This is done beautifully, Full of saddness and meaning with a real message to us the human race, we cannot go on destroying natural habitats of wild animals then force them into a cage under the pretence of saving there species. I love they way you have put this from the wolves perspective, very nicely done.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!My Sister you have penned a wonderful piece. Not only nature but you give people something to think about. And writing from the point of view of the wolf was splendid. You have done another terrific piece and I love it.
-
there is no answer.
i like how you took the voice of the wolf as your own.even asking the reader questions as a wolf might if we could communicate. you see, the people who are killing everthing thats beautiful in this world dont want to see the tears and distruction, they want to see the money it brings them, at the expense of the future. this throws it at their door steep.their are really people with no souls in this world that steal and collect the souls of others.
truly a wonderful write my sister.
broken arrow. -
beautifully written
The way the world's going today, with less natural resources for animals to survive...more and more are starving and being driven by instinct to hunt...that brings them to where people are...they are not only losing their homes, but sadly the hunted are the hunted...amimals surivive by instinct...man kills for greed and waste...of all the species that were first on this earth, 95% has vanished and how watered down is natures food chain going to go, before this earth is barren, for humanity will be doomed...awesome write, for even where I live, there's animals that have been rarely seen, out of its habitat...smile...hugs and love, Four Hawks

So sad
The wolf is a beautiful magestic creature and that has been misunderstood for so long. It is time they were allowed to have their dignity back. I pray that one day it will happen.
Great Job my twin.
*Go with God*

of all the things we take, there is this one...
this poem is well constructed, and is quite complex: on the surface, it is about the fate of wolves, and about the worst thing,,,the one thing, freedom, that if you take, you lose your soul because it flees from you in horror, no matter how bad you are, this is what you may not do, for your soul then shall make the vultures turn away and no place for you to go to become one with the spirits after you pass will there be...ths is also about the Indian, the things we took, the buffalo, the land, the culture, but we didn't care about the source of this beauty...now, in many ways, in our land there is no center of the earth....,,,Danni
