Pieces of My Soul

I lay over puddles,
so your feet won’t get wet.
I use my body as a shield,
just so you won’t get hit.

I walk on fire to you,
so you won’t get burned,
but all these good deeds
are never returned.

I give you dry shoulders,
so you have somewhere to cry.
I hide the knives,
so you won’t have to die.

I give up belongings,
so you have what you need,
but you’ve taken for granted,
each and every good deed.

I’m done giving pieces
of my soul just for you,
while I wait for you
to do the same.

Once I’m gone and have given up,
When I’m gone I hope you see
all the times I’ve been there for you
and all the times you weren’t there for me.

Please tell me what you think

This is a really good write. the only thing i thought was a bit odd was when the rhyming stops suddenly in the 5th verse. Apart from that it was really good - rhyming wasn't forced - and it flowed beautifully. I've sometimes felt like this as well!

Wow this makes me think of my dad, cuz i was always bending over backwards for him..paying the bills, raising my brother, cleaning the house..and never did he even say i love you or thankyou but now that DCF took me away he writes to me all the times saying how i was his angel and how much he misses me.
