The Texas Baby

Texas baby, you don’t know
Cicadas sing on warmish nights,
Flame-hot summers are delights-
You haven’t heard the tin-roof’s song
When April storms come knocking...
But little one, it won’t be long
Till you will hear them, rocking.

Author notes

Texas Baby is due in late March...

Love the beat within this one, and the sound of the cicadas. A very unique lullaby that is really cool!

This is wonderful but I would love to see more! I can really imagine this one being sung; it's a lively and unique theme. Bringing the cicadas in makes for an interesting berceuse because of their shrill, song like calls. I also like the mention of the rain which is so rhythmic - I might even just continue to play with these themes over and over in subsequent stanzas.
