From Derry, Kerry, Cork, Armagh;
bring your mates and Ma and Da.
Dublin, Down, and Donegal;
bring ‘em all and have a ball.
At the sign of the Six Penny Bit;
Like a favourite song it’s a hit;
Whiskey, songs, and beautiful girls;
it’s the best damned pub in the world.
Tradesmen and teachers have their spots;
Ramblers and gamblers as well.
Rosey the Shark calls her shots;
while Holmes gives everyone hell.
Jukebox and dartboards are always in use;
the staff stays busy and how;
Pourin' pints and abiding abuse;
they occasionally break up a row.
On weekends Fergs takes the floor,
to play our favourite songs;
The crowd gets loud and shouts for more
while the pretties dance along.
The Six Penny Bit on a Friday night,
is a jumpin’ joint for sure.
The folks inside feel alright,
at the best damned pub in the world.
They may pour pints up in heaven,
but their pub’s not open yet;
Sure the pint they pour at the Six,
down here is the best you can get.
While some lads sit and gamble,
some lads chase the girls;
Cut the cards or cut the rug;
at the best damned pub in the world.
New York, Boston, the West Coast too;
grab your mates, bring them with you.
North side, South side, uptown or down;
friends are welcome here from all around.

fun stuff
You really painted a fun filled image. This pub must be like a circus! The characters are all distinct without much detail. My one suggestion would be to extend the ending and make it build up to "the Six Penny Bit" or something along those lines. I felt a little let down and was hoping for a "grand finale" of sorts.
Otherwise, I had a lot of fun reading this! -
Tells a story
I love the way I could see the poem, like I was there. Great Imagery, nice rhyme & flow

-
You have written a lovely piece in a zestful yet earnest manner that is lighthearted yet somehow very sweet.Also paint a very vivid picture you have an amazing imagination and a way with words.Please kep sharing...

Great
Your poem falls within the category of descriptive, fanciful and imaginative; armed with an energy of its own that propels it into our sphere of reality. It allows time to lighten the mind and soul and just have some fun with words and thoughts without the weight of a mission statement. -
I love this!! I'm a bartender and this kind of reminds me of one of the bars that I've worked in.
Very well written!!

-
great write kinda put me inside the pub with this write you did wonderfully with this!!! great write keep on penning

A jubilliant, joyous and enthusiastic rhyme that veritbly does a jig re the shennagins to be had at the trophy that is the six penny bit! Unfettered fun, an amiable atmosphere and endless reasons for good cheer.
Reminded me of many such a night and indeed the "sprasey" itself, my Mom has a few of the old coins, including the sixpence. She told me how rich she felt if given one as a child, that's the feeling here, unbridled richness. Coincidentally I am listening to Van the Man sing Have I told you lately that I love you, great background music from a great Irishman for this ode to the second abode close to your heart.

This was a delightful and airy read. Makes me want to leave work and head off to the nearest pub! You mention Chicago! Best darn bars around!
-
Gorgeous! I wanna go to the pub with you - we would have a ball!

Oh. This is a really cute poem that you have written here.
I liked this. I'm not one for going to pubs or anything like that but you really made them sound like a lot of fun. And for a moment I was with you there and playing darts and singing karoke. I thought you did a good job of expressing yourself here.

A lovely sing song for a pub. Very impressive and descriptive. well done

Good
The way you have woven this piece together with emotions stitched with a poetic thread is unusual and impressive. The story is fun and carries a strong message reacquainting the reader with forgotten times spent in youth with innocent fun. I sense happiness when I read this ...it has a life energy of its own.

-
That's great and funny too. In my younger days I might have joined you there and hoisted a glass or two. Happy trails
-
I enjoyed this piece...I'm a huge fan of Sweden and Ireland, s I saw the name of your poem and I could't help to not click to read!!!
You brightened me day

-
Cute piece, well paced, charming read...I did however keep inserting the word "all" in your "it’s the best damned pub in *all* the world."...it just seemed to ring a bit better for me..otherwise I truly enjoyed yet another of your reads....again you have a wonderful way with words..this piece was quite fun to read along..picturing galavanting folks in various drunken stages enjoying a night at the pub.

You make me envious of the thought, an irish pub has the best flavor in the world and you can dance or drink your cares away without a thought at all for the world outside the door, always open and friendly, ah my friend you do so make me want to visit and share a guinness or two!
Love, C
