When, last year, you left me
you whispered softly in my ear:
“Don't worry my dearest darling,
I'll be back by early next year”.
Off to war, with your mates, you went,
and here you are back again, as you said,
tightly zipped up in your body-bag which
you've worn since they found you dead.
At least they've brought you home to me,
so I can carefully tend your grave
with our daughter, who you have never seen
and will one day ask: ”Was my Daddy brave?”
How then shall I answer her, soldier mine,
who went to fight a war in a foreign land,
and was killed when an idiot fanatic died
with an explosive charge clutched in his hand?

Good write. The flow was a little choppy, but the main point heart-breaking. Thanks for entering. Good luck.
