~~ Jesse James~~ ( The Outlaw)

Missing image
I know a man,
His name is Jesse James
He is a modern day outlaw
He will freely admit
He even rides with a gang~

He sits a horse
Like he was bred for it
And rides freely on the range
He's wild, he's a lover
His name is
Jesse James~

Handsome he is and he knows this well,
When he walks into a saloon
With his charm and grin that makes the devil proud
He makes all the girls swoon,
Our hero
Jesse James~

He lives by his own ethics and rules
And he will probably die that way too
Be careful
Of Jesse James
Or he will put his spell on you too~

Author notes

Inspired by a movie American Outlaws with Colin Farrell portraying Jesse James lol~

I can picture this being sung in a bar by one of Jesse's relatives or posted outside an old-time barber shop right beside his wanted poster. It's always fun to put yourself into the character of another, especially if they are fictional or legendary. I loved the line about making the devil proud. That put even more Wild West flavor into the poem. Good job!

I'd fall under that guy's spell, he's pretty darn good-lookin'! lol, he really is, i loved the picture:)

and I'm glad you chose to do this one free verse, and not rhyming, I don't think it would have worked as well, and I loved the way it sounded in my head when i was reading it:)

I don't exactly know any stories of outlaws or anything about jesse james, the closest thing I've heard is the song by Cher:P

    very nice work susan:)

    Wow, what a interesting write!
You know, the real "Jesse", "James"
was uglier then home made soap!
I made a mural on my sons suit case,
of Cowboys and Indians... I love, romances...
and westerns. I think I have seen all of them!
Did, you see the one with Rob Lowe in it?
I liked that one so much! I had to buy it!
    I also like "Tombstone"

The flow of this poem is terrific!! I love the rhythm and the rhyme. You have the flavor of that time wrapped up in a ballad of sorts. This poem almost sings.

I love this romantic poem of the outlaw
legend. Makes me think of all those lusty,
steamy romances I would fall asleep reading.
    Yuuummmm. Sweet!

If ya see em ask him where he hid the coins i

A twisted knight from a ravaged land,
Robber of the grail from quantrells hand
Prince profiteer of the vaniashed gold,
Legendary lover that no chains could hold.
Early comes the reaper and its grim reward,
Hidden in the person of robert ford.

Very cool, Susan... I love the old ledgends of Jessie James, and all the other cowboy/out laws... there is a nostalgic romance about them, you know... you reminded me of that Cher song with this...

You're struttin' into town like you're slingin' a gun
Just a small town dude with a big city attitude
You think you're so bad, drive the women folk wild
Shoot 'em all down with the flash of your pearly smile
So come on baby, come on baby
Come on baby show me what that loaded gun is for
    If you can give it
    I can take it
'Cause if this heart is gonna break
it's gonna take a lot to make it
    I know tonight
    Somebody's gonna win the fight
    So if you're so tough
    Come on and prove it
Your heart is down for the count and you know you're gonna lose it
Tonight you're gonna go down in flames
    Just like Jesse James

    Hi Susan
Well you speak of this Jessie with longing of heart
He makes your pulse flutter and dance
But Johnny's the man who can do the job right
Was Mr. James an Italian by chance?
LOL I don't know whay I did that! Maybe
    because I am Sicilian Badda-bing-badda-boom!
Great write Susan! Thanks for sharing it
    with me

This one appealed to me of course, with the horse in the picture and all (winks) .... I like the idea of the handsome outlaw myself...but since I am presently trying to get unmarried to one, I think I will stick to the nice, law abiding citizen types in the future. Great write!!! Missed ya.

Isn't Jesse James dead? I swear I played poker with him the other day in the crypt, I know this because Billy the Kid shot us both in the back and stole our money.

    A lovely piece here.
