A Galactic Collision

Missing image

 I am a spiral galaxy

self-contained, spinning free
off into the empty void

one hundred million stars in me.

A collision course I was on
with a nearby galaxy-
she, self-contained, and just like I

one hundred million stars inside…

When we met it did not feel
like anything I've felt before-
swirling, twisting, twirling, dancing

random chaos, tantalizing…

As we drifted on our ways

little stars and galaxies

spun away as children play

in unpredicted new directions

from our matter

from our dust

small tokens from the each of us.

Author notes

The Hubble Space Telescope image shows the cores of the twin Antennae galaxies as they churn in a galactic collision.

the grand scale metaphor of the miniscule. Is this an oxymoron? Probably not, but it is very telling. At some level everything has an orbit and their is stuff revolving around us and with us and we will mix together in this thing called life and love. Good work, the language was well used, the form added strength and I found it very interesting.

This is a very cool poem with very cool pictures. I especially liked this verse "As we drifted on our ways
    little stars, new galaxies
    spun away as children play…

I like this poem. Not quite sure what the meaning by it is, though, but I like it! What I think it's about is you meeting someone and fallin inlove? I dunno, it's kinda confusing to me, but then again, I'm tired as hell to begin with! BUT! Great write

There is nothing shimmering I can add ...

to this galactic version of a cosmic Poet! Five stars ***** for this genius. Well done, Wbiro, this is one of most brilliant collisions I've ever run into. May our poetic starlings be numerous and equally bright.

All the best for a wondrous and poetic 2007.

    Love
    Myra
