This Point

Time ticks by slowly
To the point that it barely passes at all
The silence invades the still air
Almost stops my chest’s rise and fall
The shadows are my backstabbing friends
But I’m too jaded to realize
Tonight I wish I could just sit back and close my eyes

I can’t seem to grip a reality
That doesn’t cause so much pain
The faster I run, the harder I fall
And I just can’t get away
The streetlights are singing
Telling me to forget this home
But when the marquee ties you down
You just can’t leave all you’ve known

The leaves change to yellow in the winter
Arizona turns black around 6
I’m stuck on the corner of Washington and Mill
Asking what the Town Lake predicts
And hidden beneath the overpass
Is the solution to addiction’s call
But at this point I just don’t care at all.

“One day the air will be too toxic to breathe,” he says
“But we’ll all be gone by then anyways.”
He looks at life through a Zippo and a pipe
Never expects to change himself someday.
And in a town of rock and roll an addiction is inevitable
When the town sees tragedy everyday.

It won’t be the first time
And it won’t be the last
Interventions are just a way to pass time
But when the tears put out the sun
And the music’s all gone
No one’ll be left with a dime.

The leaves change to yellow in the winter
Arizona turns black around 6
I’m stuck on the corner of Washington and Mill
Asking what the Town Lake predicts
And hidden beneath the overpass
Is the solution to addiction’s call
But at this point I just don’t care at all.

The sun cracks the pavement in summer
Arizona stays light until 8
I’m stuck on the corner of Washington and Mill
Asking for predictions from the Town Lake
And hidden beneath the overpass
Is the solution to addiction’s call
But at this point I just can’t seem to care at all
At some point you just can’t keep caring at all.

Author notes

Basically, this is how it is for alot of people everywhere, but when I look at Tempe, AZ, sometimes this is all I can see of it.
