Solitude

What of loneliness, on Christmas Eve
Family all but demised
Not a soul around in my home
Friends busy with their own child
No time for a friend

What of loneliness, on Christmas Day
All alone, save a brother with problems abound
What can the lonely man say?
All of ya’ll have a good time

Depression is a state of mind
Just overlook the joy once found
When family was so kind
All of the joy of the joyous crowd

Times have changed for me
Not a soul around in my home
Just overlook the joy once found
All of ya’ll have a good time

Author notes

I have suffered a few losses and the friendship of others merely reminds me of the family that I once had

Please tell me what you think

Loss of friends and loved ones is always felt more at Christmas time, it seems. I know it's that way for me.

Your poem reflects so clearly the anguish and lonliness of such times.

    A poignant, touching poem

    Ouch

This is heart breaking, on some level I kind of know the feeling myself as far as friends go. Powerfully expressed.
