I Will Gladly (Give to Ireland)

I will gladly give to Ireland after all She gave to me;
my heart, my life, my soul; my songs and poetry.
I will gladly give to Ireland after all She gave to me;
my funds, my guns, my blood; my love and loyalty.

I will gladly fight Her occupiers, gladly give them war;
launching SAM’s and starting fires 'til they occupy no more.
I will gladly give to Britain after all they gave to Thee;
injustice, poverty and prison; fear, and endless tyranny.

I will gladly give my life to hear Her enlightened thought;
die if I shall in the fight, that for freedom will be fought.
I will kill British soldiers if I must, to give Irish prisoners liberty;
In God before guns I will trust, when God sets those fierce Gaels free.

I will gladly quit this fight when the North the British flee;
I‘ll let London sleep at night when they let Belfast be.
I will gladly let the Troubles cease, lay down my weaponry;
I will gladly embrace peace, when Ireland is set free.

I will gladly give to Ireland after all She gave to me;
my funds, my guns, my blood; my liberty and loyalty.
I will gladly give to Ireland after all She gave to me;
Her daughter, my lover, my soul; my songs and poetry.

    Interesting write ...

    I'm reading Borstal Boy right now, so this does seem oddly coincidental. Your meter is off here too, by the way, but I do applaud the sentiments, although I'm not much into wars and bloodshed.

    Actually, I'm opposed to war on principle, but I do know all too well what the English did to Ireland over the Centuries. It's a sad story indeed.

    You show the spirit of a free irishman, if he is given his ireland back where it rightfully belongs to all free irishmen, then the guns can cease and peace can reign. You do my heart good Love, C

      Ah... Dear Belfast...my favourite city in the world..I spend most of my time in Killough, just outside Downpatrick, and just down the road from Ardglass. I also stay in Gilford, right on the Down/Armagh border on the Claire Road..and of course, Mayobridge lays claim to me as well..Ever been to Madden's in Belfast? Or Wee Minnie's in Gilford?..Gorman's in Mayobridge? Or..the Anne Boal Inn or S.O.S in Killough? Your familiarity with the North and its history and politics gives me great comfort today...Thanks so much Lady Ireland...Slan, Larkin
