Clockmaker

He remembers in the cold
How he used to sit and count
His knuckles used to crack
As he hammered to the sound in the background
Only one in town who was bound
To fix the clocks (tick tock)
When their time (time) ran out
He replaced their hearts
Pulled the ticks off
Which kept it bleeding, beating
His quiet moments were fleeting
He looked for meaning
But only for the time being
Because the future looked bleak
From everything he was seeing
See lately
Everything is happening a little early
It's warmer than the former
It's creepin' above thirty
Even the birdies are leavin' prematurely
'What's goin' on,' he wonders
Is it his clocks? He worries
But all the people walk the same walk as usual
They talk the same talk
Their drama's like a musical
You're human if you take it for granted it's beautiful
But Clockmaker watches the alarm
It's inexcusable

Time
Time
Can't tick tock our way out of this one
All I need
All I need

He stares across the water as the sun just sets
'But how could it come to this?'
He's blinded by regret
He doesn't even deserve to light his cigarette
But wait
Maybe it wasn't his clocks
A chance it wasn't his neglect
See a goldfish in a bowl can't survive
Without water on its side
It'll die, cleanliness applies
And the globe in disguise is a fishbowl too
Bumpin' up a ride are folks like me and you
And the taste of the waste from a race like us
Makes a big case providin' space at a pace like us
We cannot trace the worth
Replace the earth's embrace
Time's up
Clockmaker sees the seasons of change
Time's just
Tickin' away
Tick Tickin' away
Tickin' away
But everyday we pray
It stops tickin' away
Just tickin' away
But armageddon's course of action
Cannot happen in a day

Time
Time
Can't tick tock our way out of this one
All I need
All I need

The people gathered and said
"Clockmaker we talk fake and we walk faker"
The crowd assembled was shocked
The door unlocked for neighbors
But he was ready to talk
And stop the thoughts in favor
To bring these cats all together
For there was lots of labor
But they said
"Save it, we gave it to generations later
We just want reassurance that we're safe
Today from danger"
He thought a minute and realized they
Didn't care for nature
The work to aid it made it
They explained too much to pay
For "ignorance may be bliss
But apathy is dangerous
Exchange with this a sense
That we can't maintain the mundane
Resist"
They stared at him as if he requested a favor
And so he shut the door on the swarm
Reporters and papers
Rewardin' invaders
Who in the storm become haters
And then conform to crusaders
Turn their behavior to takers
But despite all that they'd like to think
In spite of what they say
Armageddon's a process, don't happen in a day

Time
Time
Tickin' away, just tickin' away
Can't tick tock our way out of this one
All I need
All I need

This is the story of clockmaker
And how his people refused
They ignored the little voice in their head
Continued to use
Yeah...continued to use
From space you can spot the stretch of the bruise
[OR] (From space you can spot expanses of bruise)
But it's just a story, right?
Just a story tonight
You draw the parallels
Forget in a hurry, it's fine
Just sit down, don't you worry
Resign
It'll all blow over in a day
The daily grind
But if this is a tale
Like the fables of Aesop
Then it's as real as the man
Even if you pray not
Or pay cops
It's to no avail, there's no enforcement
Much less help from our great government's endorsement
But I love the land and you love the sea
We understand this both indefinitely
I wanna be remembered for my words
Not my waste at my wake
Waste no more time
Y'know we're runnin' low on

Time
Time
All I need
All I need

Thank you for entering my contest and good luck. This was a very hard poem for me to follow. It seemed jerky and fragmented. It was hard for me to follow along with the story. It just didn't seem to flow for me.

This was a very interesting and thought provoking write, and i must admit, thouroughly captivating. I liked the repetetiveness of the ticking, and'all i need' it made it seem as if time was ticking along, as if nothing was happening, rather than lookng at reality. Thanks for your entry.
But please could you put your penname in the authors note please.
Take care and keep penning. XxX
