Arcadia

Arcadia

Of all the Earthly places,
which would relate most closely,
to arcadia?

A white lake,
suspended in frozen repose,
snowfall lacking celerity,
the moon full in the night’s sky,
reflecting upon the sub-zero water,
with stars perforating the sheet of ice,
breath mirroring the scene.

Atop a large hill,
while the sun quits the day,
from behind the hills
to paint the heavens,
the birds fluttering around treetops,
chirping a splendid melody,
and a warm breeze blows
the aroma of flowers along.

Amidst an effervescent plain,
where laughter abounds,
beautiful animals gallop and play,
the grass grows great in height,
bringing fields of daffodils to life,
years of chaste kept in check
for the sun keeps eternal watch.

Before a deep valley,
where within a grand river roars,
weaving a maze of cliffs and falls,
the roar of the rapids reach the apex,
the cliffs of rock change shades of color,
igniting a fiery rainbow as the sun raises high!

Along a sanded beach,
the waves ebb and flow,
to pull down the sandcastles along the shore,
and fill the moats subtly placed,
the sand so soft and lukewarm,
the metronome of the tide’s fall,
of the sun’s rise or descent,
which splatters the beach with dye.

Within a wood,
so remote from industrial life,
where the animals sing a never-ending symphony,
rapt with joy and tranquil sinuous time,
the leaves would dye orange and red,
to weave a blanket on the forest floor,
and warm it from around winter’s nigh,
where the air is fresh and crisp of pine.

Or…

Perhaps arcadia is within ourselves.
Deep in our hearts and bound of lethe,
taking our home, our family, and friends,
as a paradise captured within our minds!
Swim this river of Hades,
but drink not its wine,
to uncover the arcadia hidden so well.

this was good. and really unique. i loved your description of this place. it was so thought out, that i didn't even have to close my eyes in order to be put in this land. i was already there just reading this piece. it was rich in imagination, and the ending had to be my most favourite part out of it all. so it was a very well written poem on your part. thank you for entering, and good luck.

Everything before the "or" with awe...

    Darling

    You wove a tapestry
    beautiful like Hollywood films
    full of splendid majesty
    even branches for kilns.

    Then with you "or"
    perhaps your constructions doubt
    disbelieving your fabric tore
    your fantasies turned about.
