The cards have been dealt and laid upon the table
You draw another card, hoping for a better hand
But no aces show their face, you must work with what you have.
The person on your left is bluffing, saying they have a better hand
The one on the right folds under, the pressure he can’t stand
You just sit there waiting, holding what you’ve got.
Silently praying that you have a shot.
We all have our aces and we all have our spades
We win and we lose some, depending on the day
God hands us our cards and we chose to stay or hit
It doesn’t matter what you are dealt, it’s the game and how we play it.
Author notes
* * * * * * (lots of stars for you)
What I am saying with this piece is that I don't think God would deal you anything that in the end you couldn't handle. You are beautiful and there is strength within you to play these cards you have been dealt right.

I can totally see how this did well in a contest called "A Ray of Hope". I don't know how the reachy rhyming wasn't pointed out by anyone though... there are some really distracting ones in there. While the metaphor for life as a game of cards isn't new as some commenters seem to think, you do handle it quite well. Good job with that, just tighten up the rhythm and rhyme... or choose not to rhyme at all.

Awesome!
What an intelligent, well crafted write.
The cards in your hand may change, bluff if it suits you... but regardless all of them will have all played a part in the accumulated hand you hold today.
Beautiful... so true!
I appreciate the way you continually lay yours face up on the table for all to see. Kj

REMARKABLE
Wow this is realy a wonderfull piece of work, I decided to enter but first wanted to see what others have written. I love how you have used the cards as a metaphore to life. We all pray for aces and more often than not end up with a joker which does not tell us in which direction the day will go. But as we are given spades you must just play your hand and pray for a better hand tomorrow. The beauty of it is there is always a chance for a better card, all is not lost. Brilliant and I applaud you for this brilliant piece of work. Good luck in the contest.

One of the best concepts, penned in a beautiful metaphor. Who would've thought of saying life is like a card game? Something so simple in life, you used as the metaphor to life itself. That shows great talent in poetry, at least to me!! Way to go, Mom lol.
You write beautiful and astonishing poetry.
Treat your talent with great respect, this is an awesome and amazing piece.

you got it, bang on. we are dealt some bum deals in our lives, but we do get dealt a hand we stick with from day one. the trick is to know when to fold and when to hold as you say, but reading the cards in your hand and knowing what each one means is a life long hold. it's only when people see you, meet you, speak to you, and then understand you, that they 'see' your hand. fantastic way of putting this message across, well done.
