What concealed truth
in some drear space of light
may be revealed in a reflection?
For the not-so-blind,
reflections are most accurate
when you dream of many probings
in eyes looking back at you.
I look into a lake and ask:
'Will the echo be melodic,
or a disharmonic introspection.'
I have thought long and often that
the Universe is a giant mirror
suspending its once tininess
into a big breath of light
refracting whatever you do.
Is your spirit like a looking-glass,
spread-eagled above you, never you but
dimensions over two, an illusion?
When you push away from the womb,
do you see more in reflective surfaces,
as eyes gauge noses, spoons and roses
rather than just what is skin deep?
In each wryly-drawn phantom of words
do you avoid your own image,
write another poem, another line
in order to cling to self-delusion?
Is your poetry an uncomfortable chair?
Do self-respect and confidence reflect
all you are a part of as the day closes
in your mirrored spirit's keep?
in some drear space of light
may be revealed in a reflection?
For the not-so-blind,
reflections are most accurate
when you dream of many probings
in eyes looking back at you.

This asks the existential questions, I think. Speaking to purpose and being. The questioning tone of the poem reveals a sense of vulnerability that is appealing. There is one question though that doesn't seem so - the bit abou thte uncomfortable chair has a more "you" tone to it as opposed to the more introspective of the other questions. Enjoyed the journey this one took me on. Hope you enjoy being hoodwinked.

Wow!
Succinct and profound penning that provides more substance with less flesh, spare and complete in it's reflective task. Well done poet! Good Luck!****

I avoid my own image. I don't feel pretty. I just feel average. I don't like my image. I am trying to change it. Another excellent poem written by you.

There are slowly growing landscapes in your poem and manuals for multi-disciplinary writers
and for me a word, two, three, four or five to mesmerize my very lazy mind, so that I may sleep on the smooth, cool, reflective surface of your mirror ...
Aaaah. Happy siesta, Ron ...
And: Enjoy Brisbane.

Back from Brisbane!
Dear Myra,
Thank you for YOUR reflections. Ron

Thought provoking
I can't say that I have plumbed all your meaning yet; you have a way of saying more than the words appear at first to signify. I am fascinated by reflections, especially things I don't recognize in odd-shaped reflectors - the world is not quite right until I identify the object.
The "faithless" mirror conceals rather than revealing; a person who does not reflect emotions naturally is such a false mirror. Many people are taught to 'control' and falsify themselves (thereby learning to control others); who is authentic these days? That is just my reflection on your first stanza - there is plenty more for the attentive reader.
This poem is an uncomfortable chair - bravo.

This hits pretty close to home for me. When I really do some serious soul searching I often wonder what my part of the comos is all about. Will my little ripple in the big poetic pond be noticed? Only time will tell. Good luck in the contest.
Sincerely,

Excellent
I love the questions this raises, very thought provoking.
I really liked this line,
"Is your poetry an uncomfortable chair?"
Sometimes..it is. But for the most part it's a broken-in recliner.
This is a very prolific look at self-reflection. Which on the word itself; reflection; which often is overly used, your write is not only unique, but brilliant. Thanks for this. A great read!

Who's the Fairest?
A great entry for this contest as well as some soul-searching blues. I loved the last line "in your mirrored spirit's keep?" for how often do we wander there as we lay down to sleep? For me, that is my most relective time and one could view is as my conversation with God or the great spirit of my being(the universe). What really matters seems to be our connection to that "unknown space" where messages come "raw & uncoded" and without need for pretense.
You have created a poem that should make one think of humility and reverence for the unspoken loyalty of our connections to those ethereal voices! Very super job with this one and right down my philosophical alley.

Dear Joy
That particular phrase was garnered as part of the contest regime. I take no credit for it except for my ability to weave in 50% of the lines and make a shorter poem my poem.
