whose calender do we believe,I always had a
sense of the gregorian and yet, this year,
this year will be my best year yet
my phoenix will regenerate, rejeuvenate,
liberate me, my dolphin will swim, leap
and smile joyously,embracing sensuality,
swim where it wishes to grace and face
each and every possibility...
my unicorn, she will fly like highest kite,
with imagination and love of light,
away from all that restricts and constricts,
and I say adieu,au revoir,auwviederzehn,
ciao, farewell, tots siens, cest la vie to adversity
to all that was I say it doesn't confine,
define me, lessons learned and hard earned,
some had to be learned twice, it's true,
I learned slowly but now am through
the next moments in time are mine,
all mine, I choose to spend and share,
live, love, laugh, continue to show I care,
I was imprisoned within this lifetime
back to college, learn from the school
of life, one step at a time, rejecting strife,
have only so many moments left you see,
and I am dancing through them with liberty
I shall love you til I no longer breathe,
miss the good so much that my soul cries,
but you fragmented and made a mosiac of me,
til I abandoned me, nothing existed but sighs
contest over, who won I still don't know,
and no longer care, I am going to live
and not exist within this plain reality
Author notes
I plan to return to college to gain qualification to counsel professionaly,my abusive ex thwarted both my voluntary counselling and my college place.I am gifting more moments to myself and others in need as opposed to dealing with his abuse, violence and alcoholism. We may only change ourselves and he doesn't want to change,I can no longer let this chaos disaffect every area of my life.

You sure brought out a battle you were facing well in this poem. I am glad you shared this with us! Great job on this piece!

I have to admit I have a soft spot for fantasy imagery. Anyone who uses unicorns, phoenixes, and the like in a well written poem is alright in my book. I use a lot of similar imagery myself so I like its use in this poem. Beyond that the poem flows well and its meaning is clear and relatable.

oufffff Yvette, what a dream to finally reach for. Fly my friend (pssssst.....I am owned by a few parrots
) and they have taught me that even a bird whose feathers are not intact can fly. So just as they do....spread your wings, reach for the skies and fly into yourself.............................
much love , and may the wind help you

i just want to commend you for the way you wrote your poem. was very creative the way you spilled the beans so full of imagery yet so gracefully. wonderful write, and one to be proud of definitely. great luck to you. as for your experiences with bad relationships and abuse and men holding you down, been there, done that. climbed out and i feel so much better now about myself. there will always be scars and bruises, but you only have one life to live. no second chances. why waste it by letting someone else destroy it. great write. again, i say lovely job.!!!

Amazing...
I feel like standing up and applauding you loudly, Yvette for the courage to say goodbye, auf wiedersehn...and in Afrikaans "tot siens" to everything and everyone that held you back. I see light here, I see flight, I see courage and determination... the author's comments as poweful and as moving as the poem. I know how much it takes to pick up the pieces, to move from fragment to wholeness and wow...I am amazed by this dream of yours. Yes, if you can dream it, you can do it - and I know you will. Indeed a momentous moment you've penned here...like unveiling the clouds to the warmth and the light of a thousand suns. I wish you the realization of this dream. Bravo, my friend!!
