break the chain

To a child out in the cold of despair.
Who knows not why it is.
Some steal spirits, break down souls.
Remember to care and live.
Do what you must to get through.
Stay alive, don't think of this.
Be resiliant and love do give.

Try to stay whole, hide precious heart.
Reveal it when anew you start.
Your own life with your own rules.
Please don't ever be so cruel.
To act like that utter fool.

When you can take the reins of life
and leave the pain,  hardship, strife.
Never forget what was done.
know your not the only one.

Keep the spark of hope alive,
even when tinder isn't dry.

For one day you WILL have control
over you and over all.

When that happens please be wise.
View life through that child's eyes.
Do not think or perpetuate
the feeling of such utter hate.

Be yourself create a world,
let your petals come unfurled
Become the rose you were meant to be.
Rise above the adversity.

You weren't the one who was ever bad,
or they'd have known the gift they had.

So once again please advocate
the gift of love and never hate.

Believe in self for you've survived
trial's and tribulation's tides.

You are strong will always be.
Broke the chains to fly so free.

I really like the intro it pulls the reader into the write. It gives hope to the reader and choices to the ones who are going though the issue of abuse. Very indept write.

These rhyming couplets work well in this poem to convey the message you share with those who read these lines - great entry into this contest. This will serve to inspire those who find themeselves in the same situations others have gone through; others have survived and so can they. Sentiments well expressed in these lines - easy to read and understand what you are saying here.

I personally feel this lacks immediancy.

You are there is the cold of despair.
I feel helpless to hold you and love you,
and find courage to tell you we must go on together wording our way to a difficult, yet, possible futur future.

Not a poem to work on now. Try a short lyric.

I do not know where I am going - where you are trying to take me. Perhaps you might try cutting the poem by half?

    Wonderful

I don't really ever want to remember the pain, but its there and real. I wish those who knew of little children and old alike would take those few minutes to help them out. Time is short for them, Its seems to never really want to end. Becomes only bad memories, Only to wish they were just bad dreams that were never abled to be shock. Thanks for posting, and shareing. I know it must have been hard but the piece is so very touching. May the Lord keep healing, as he has in our family.

far too often victims take the used

that is in the word ab-used, and get used to it, the abuse, blaming themselves, and so they stay trapped, hiding behind a wall of bruised flesh that becomes excuses of clumsiness, and a broken soul that only true love or angels on the other side can heal, but there are doors all around leading one out and away from the abusers, and there are good people behind those doors which are always open to any, and all if they just take the few, extremely difficult steps through them, they must fight back fear, and misguided love, and pain to do this but conselours and lawyers, and policemen, and judges, and shelters, and hope and joy, and repair all wait on the other side....so glad to see you made it ~~~Artis

Welcome to your contest wishing you the best...

    Darling

    From your words act
    reach out to me
    make giving a fact
    let everyone else see.

    I needed to hear
    anyone else did care
    as enslaved right here
    my fears never dared.

    But someone like you
    believing as you say
    reached out to do
    as her heart parlayed.

    So, I urge friend
    lover of God's light
    yes, abused children defend
    doing what is right.

    Smoosh
