Al-Hamdu lilAh

When money’s running low,
And family’s far away,
When life’s becoming a foe…
Oh, what can I say?

When I’m doubting my best friends,
And I start to hate myself,
When even family won’t letters send,
I’m like a doll on a shelf.

When I see past report-cards,
And for my failure grieve,
When I try to pull out the shards…
“Oh, who will I deceive?”

When I have no ambition,
And all vigor has left me,
When loved-ones are not my ignition,
Who, then, will I be?

When debates become a bore,
And my charges look away,
When passions no longer soar…
Oh, what can I say?

When I’ve fallen down the stair,
And walking seems deadly,
When the grief I cannot bare,
And the pain is searing redly…

I think;

When money’s running low,
And family’s far away,
When efforts are on the go,
“Al-Hamdu lilAh,” I say.

When doubt is but uncertain,
And a distant friend hugs me,
When withdrawn is Evil’s curtain,
“Al-Hamdu lilAh,” will my words be.

When I see this years' report-card,
And all that I've accomplished,
When my worries have been so marred,
"Al-Hamdu lilAh," they're demolished.

When I sneak in something new,
And my charges return to the case,
When another discussion we brew,
“Al-Hamdu lilAh,” speeds up the pace.

When one of my feet are broken,
There’s still blood in my veins.
When of a blessing, is my health a token,
“Al-Hamdu lilAh,” all regret wanes.

It’s when 100 things go wrong,
And all seems in disaster,
That, “Al-Hamdu lilAh,” we must recite in song,
And in prayer turn to our Master.

It’s also when relief is brought,
Even in a single event,
That no more is sorrow sought,
And we can no longer lament.

Al-Hamdu lilAh.

Author notes

"Al-Hamdu lilAh" is an Arabic/Islamic expression meaning, "All praise is due to Allah." It's commonly used also as "Thank God." Allah is not some eastern deity - He is the God of Judiasm, Christianity, and Islam; simply the Arabic word for "God."

My inspiration for this poem was the mild, if painful, injury of a torn ligament in my ankel after falling down a few stairs recently. Mobility is restricted and painful, but I'm just grateful to God that it isn't more than that. Al-Hamdu lilAh.

Whether this poem is meant to inspire, revive hope, provoke thought, or simply to be, it is still a poem, and I am still an amature, so I'd still appreciate help if you can give it.

However, the simplicity of alternate rhyming is deliberate, and I prefer to keep each line short so as to not loose the feel of each rhyme. Other than that, all suggestions, comments, advice, etc, are more than welcome. Thank you!

Salaam (peace)!!

    Assalam-Alaikum

Wonderful poem, your injury is beatifully compared to the sorrow that threatens to engulf this magnificent world. And also great rhyme scheme.
