A soldiers nightmare, of not returning back.
"Focus, stay, focused," is the whispers in his ears,
Borderline losing it, when its his wife's voice he hears.
Her smiling face, warm touch, man, focus please,
Grenades going off around us, people falling before me.
Tears streaking children's faces, women running in fear.
As they do random checks, making sure all premises are clear.
Running, hiding, become daily routine,
Blood shed on both sides, now a daily scene.
There it is, that sweet sound,
The comfort in his wife's voice, the peace he has found.
"Focus honey, be careful, I love you, " ringing in his head,
"Everything is going to be alright, just as Jesus said."
Call unto Him, and lay your burdens aside,
Christ is the Commander, traveling by your side.
A smile touches his lips, as he visions her face,
Standing alone in the kitchen, keeping things in place.
His children running around, as she tells them to stop,
Feelings strong within her now, as at that moment he had been shot.
Knees buckling, she hit the floor,
Tears streaming, as she prayed once more.
"Father, please, I know there's something wrong,
My heart is now offbeat, no longer a perfect song.
Keep Your hand upon him, heal what needs healing,
He is scared, Lord, and his pain I am feeling.
There's not much I believe in, but I do believe in You,
I do believe in miracles, and the healing that you do.
Let him know we miss him, and I need him hear with me,
Let him feel my heart Lord, his love is what I need.
Thank you, Lord, for listening and comforting my heart,
Thank you for giving us stregnth, even though we're miles apart."
Amen.
As he lays there, upon the enemies soil,
He remember his loving wife, and the faith she holds so loyal.
He can almost feel her now, as he slowly drifts away,
Blackness embraces him, and his heart hears all she has to say.
Lightness comes from the distance, a woman dressed in white,
Beauty shining within her eyes, as she reaches out tonight.
Lips pursed in a smile, as she whispers I love you,
DOn't you worry honey, Our God will see you through.
She placed a kiss, soft and gentle to his skin,
As he reached out for her,the light gone, he began to pray again.
"Father, please, my wife is a believer, she knows your name,
I am beginner, but I want to love you just the same.
My wife is my rock, and my children are my dream,
I know I been a little rocky, and I may not love you, so it seems.
I can feel her weeping Lord, I know she feels my pain,
Being away from her, is driving me insane.
I can hear her voice, shakey at times,
Telling me she loves me and be careful, I will be just fine.
Yet Lord, she has found comfort, in your embrace,
Such a powerful hold you have on her, for someone who has no face.
Noone has ever seen you, but it seems they feel it your presence,
I don't know Lord, it just doesn't make no sense.
I remember baby girls birth, you know, when she wasn't going to make it,
My wife began to pray, she put her heart and soul in it.
DOctors came in, drawing blood again,
Said that it's a miracle, I didn't know what they meant.
Blood pressure now normal, she can go on with delivery,
Baby came into this world, 10 fingers, 10 toes, just perfect to me.
So Lord, if you can wipe away disease, and make the lame walk,
I am the reason, pushing you away was simply, all my fault.
I have come to realize what I was so blind to see,
That you have came to my rescue, in all my times of need.
I want you to know Lord, I thank you, something I never said,
For being with my wife, my children, and the sinful life I led.
For if it wasn't for you, I would of been dead long ago,
So if I have to go now Lord, there's one thing I have to know.
Will I walk in Glory, will I see my Maker's face?
Will I see my wife again, in a righteous place?
I know so many questions, but I feel her pain,
Can you let her know Lord, I love her just the same.
That she was my rock, my best friend,
The mother of my children, her powerful stregnth I commend.
She is my heart and soul, she is the sparkle in my eyes,
She is my hope, as the long nights slip by.
(tears flooding this soldiers face)
Her picture is what I hold, as I slip off to sleep,
But as I drift away now, her memories I will keep.
Thank You Lord, for the Angel you shared with me,
Keep her in your loving embrace, for eternity.
Lord, I am sorry, for the pain I caused you too,
I wish I got to know you, before I have to....."
Eyelids flicker, the light so bright,
The commander looking down at him, "Son are you alright?"
Tears flooded his vision, as JEsus reached for him,
It's alright son, another chance your given.
Picking up the phone, he had to make a call,
But before he could, his wife was in the hall.
As the door swung open, tears in her eyes,
"Jesus told me you will be fine," choking back her cries.
As he reached for her, trembling in his hands,
Told her that he loved her, and with God he began.
Telling of his vision, his words with Him,
Telling of his new found faith, a believer once again.
As she watched her husband, she could feel the presence of the Lord,
Knowing with all her heart, her husband has been restored.
"Thank you Jesus, for all you've said and done,
Here is another miracle, of the Maker's Son.
Author notes
As I work with a wonderful lady, her husband had been shipped to Iraq a short time back. You could see her mood changes, the lvoe the pain the sadness, most of all the not knowing at times. Yet, I can see also the bond that has formed through their many years of life together. hen one hurts, the otehr feels it, when one cries the other one cries, when one is in pain, the other travels it with them. Amazing of how Lord works with you heart and soul, that His mate for you can usually be "In sync with you" To have that kind of love is the most one can dream of. I am blessed knowing that there is love out there so closely bonded. Lovely. Kim and Matt, this is filled with sadness, loss, hope, faith, but most of all, the strong unity you both share. I pray that God continues to bless you both, and has His hand over Matt til he is safely returned home to you, Lane, Dyllin, and baby girl.
Much love

Excellent release of the soul here my friend. You are very wise with great perception. This is deep on many levels. Most Americans forget that freedom is never free, it is paid in blood so that we may piss and moan about nothing being on tv etc.. My father, sister and brother served. I myself was shot here in the homeland and it kept me from serving. It is a strange feeling to be denied that but like you I pay tribute with words. A wounded heart and a loaded pen make a lethal combination. Take care Passion..............Z

This was beautifull and packed with emotions and imagery that one cannot help but be moved to tears.
Souls are matched in heaven that they may carry the light between them and no man, no measure of evil and sometimes even near death will ever do them part.
Thank you for sharing such a wonderfull poem and it deserves many more a trophy.

Heart touching
I've never found a poem that could make me cry such tears as this one has. Reading this was like reading both Michael and my heart and prayers. In some kind of sense I feel his pain at night and I feel is fear during the day. I just hope God is with him like he was there for the soldier in this poem. Keep up the good work and thank you so much for sharing it with me and entering it into my contest! Best of luck!

Emotionally Powerful--Great Writing!
I thought that this piece was so remarkable powerful is sheds new light to what people and the families in the armed forces are faced with daily. I could only imagine the fear and the faith needed to withstand being in a place where so much violence erects each day.
Powerful Stanza:
As he lays there, upon the enemies soil,
He remember his loving wife, and the faith she holds so loyal.
He can almost feel her now, as he slowly drifts away,
Blackness embraces him, and his heart hears all she has to say.
Your voice in this piece was truly enriching. I could feel every word and I could see each stanza as it was written.
Wonderful Job with this poem. Thank you for posting this.

Beautifully Written!
This is beautifully sad. It brought tears to my eyes as I read it. I love how you took this idea and wrote such a wonderful story about it. Being away from the one that you love can be very challenging, especially in these types of circumstances. You never know when you are shipped off, when you will be back. All you can do is hold on and pray. Hope that one day things will turn around and you will be back home safely with the one that you love. This is a very heartfelt story. Thanks for sharing this with me! Great work Victoria! I love you always!
