Can’t help but think of you at Christmas time
And when I do, the here and now is blurred
And I forget the peace I’ve come to find
When memories of you are un-interred.
When, with a whiff of evanescent pine,
Your face is conjured up before my eyes
I find myself unsure of all that’s mine
And reaching out, ignoring Wisdom’s cries,
For something that I’ve left within the past,
Beneath the sparkling lights of Christmas gone-
I can’t escape that kiss that did not last
It’s memory will not leave me alone!
Although within the now I’ve harnessed peace,
When Christmas comes, your love reclaims its lease.
Author notes
Just a bit of Christmas time nostalgia.
