I
There is still a whiff of yesterday
clung to your beard;
the musk
that weaves together
a story neither of us are telling--
and the cold escapes its own breath
pressing through a crack
in sliding glass doors
to warm its hands beside the heater
looks up and grins as we enter
offering up a spot for us to stand.
II
We've become master chefs
with ramen noodle creations-
you laugh at me
when I start reminiscing
about steak and potatoes,
chicken breasts
smothered in marinara sauce
throw thick cut bologna
in a skillet
and serve it up
between slices of white bread.
III
I spoke to an old lady today-
told me the difference
between love
and lust
lie in the ability
to forget the morning breath
and kiss, anyways.
IV
I watch your dreams enter
through the front door,
slink out the window
while you are sleeping-
I let you lay, oblivious
and pray you never read the goodbye note
they taped to the bathroom mirror.
V
We find each other in the night-
warmth of cuddled bodies
and the knowledge we share more
than sheets and bed-covers.
Author notes
Favorite quote:
"But there are some things I know for certain: always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can." (Sally Owens/Practical Magic... or whoever wrote the script, actually)
not a winner... it did receive an honorable mention... but that's like first loser, so I'm good.

Nice work!
As the references were regarding a mxture of scenarios, I'd gather she more than had her marbles, and precision no doubt from the newest dates to the old. Lovely message in reminisce!

I've always loved poetry in parts-
There is something so fucking poetic about a IIV or whatever.. . to me it just looks beautiful. All fragmented, lek a piece of old poetry, where some of it is missing, and they can only find a few sections.. but they are such beautiful sections. I guess that's how poetry feels to me sometimes.. liek a little section of the author- just a fragment..
Anywya.. I really really like this, it feels like you're.. on form
The third one is gorgeous... old lady.. oooh.. hehe. But is it the older you telling the younger you??
nah.
And the noodles one is funny.. well, it isn't, but the images made me smile.. you in a chef hat, produces various strange noodle concoctions including noodles and jam, and noodles and pigeons
Idk where the fuck they came from!!

A wonderful piece
This wonderful poem is of hope and love. You express yourself with such skill. I love the detail you added to this piece. Makes me feel great thinking of love. Skillfully crafted piece indeed. Thank you for sharing. -
this is a beautiful collection of thoughts. Beautiful. My favorite stanza: "I spoke to an old lady today-
told me the difference
between love
and lust
lie in the ability
to forget the morning breath
and kiss, anyways."

I know this is the third time; but I pull more from this piece that I can relate too each time I read it. The note on the bathroom mirror, left by dreams...sigh. So many times I've felt that I hold him back. That he could be so much more without me. When he met me, I already had three of my kids. The youngest is his. He has taken care of all of them the same; and some days the struggle makes me want to leave. The sad thing is he is the one (barely) making the bills. I got a job today...Mcdonalds...who hoo...just to help make ends meet. Sorry to ramble; but I can really relate to this more than any I've read in awhile...Trina

I do know how you feel. I also feel that mine would be better off without me. Then he could have what he wants, he could work and see results, instead of holding ends together with bloody hands. It's always a struggle. Always has been, with me. I've become use to it, he just got dragged into it. I think of this every night. I'm sorry that you can relate.

Meli, another well written piece in free verse that portrays poetry without pontificating but with your innate ability to imbue scenarios with an intrinsic balance of the profound within relationships and still imbue it with naturalness and realism.
As ever,a pleasure to read your creativity, love and light,Yvette -
Lovely, dolly. I shall be back.

love this so much--
-
-gorgeous-
I know not what C'est La Vie means, but I loved this write... As though your trying to convince yourself that this really is love and not lust, but the old lady refernce makes that stumble for a moment... The food refernces are beautiful in the fact that you may have not enjoyed eating them, but you enjoyed making them 'together'... --sigh, I'm a wistful romantic as usual, this is beautiful, Meli.

Beautiful!
You are so talented, but you must know that....
"I watch your dreams enter
through the front door,
slink out the window
while you are sleeping-
I let you lay, oblivious
and pray you never read the goodbye note
they taped to the bathroom mirror."
I am always in awe of you....

You know the whole ramen noodles thing has me laughing. We have been there. The recipes you can create are endless...some rather tasteless or disgusting...but endless nonetheless....
-
This has to be one of my favorites. I love it. The old lady reference was a perfect touch. Meli, you cast moments in such precise perfection. I will forever be in awe of your talent...Trina
