A chance between two friends
You'll have come a long way
When you get here
Plane flights and car rides
Till the journey ends.
Quite a different landscape
You will anticipate and see
A small city in the prairies
My home,my city and me.
Large spruces grow along our street
Majestically standing tall
They are like angels
Holding out their arms for all
And in front my window
One stands tall for you
To welcome you
With songbirds
A lovely song so true
Amassed with color
My flower bed
With peonies,and lilies
So fair, and many other
Perennials will woo you
Their strong scents
Will fill the air!
My windchime blowing
The breezes flowing
And we'll come in for tea
My best china will be set
Out in my dining room for thee!
All around the house will be
Antiques of family name,
And watercolors and paintings
My own and some of fame
The music will be gentle
The kind you like I know
And the atmosphere will be
One we love and know
Our conversation will be
As friends who've known
Each other
For many years,
As sister or of brother
I'll have my favorite tea out
And give you apple crisp
And all delights
That you could wish
Will be there on your dish
When sadly you have to leave
I'll tearfully say adieu
And count myself so blessed
The time I've spent with you!

Lovely, Rose Angel!!!!!!
Friendship is the key to life. Knowing that you have made an impact on someone's life for eternity is an accomplishment to few have the honor of having done. i have a friend I have known all my life and he I cherish like a brother. Wonderfully written.

Letter writing is also a lost art, it seems, but hospitality is what I felt when reading your eyes thru ink in this write. The "To you, I will never be cold" on my Author Page is from "Songbird (Fleetwood Mac), and I am always appreciative when I see a poem with a songbird mentioned. Also the watercolors, since they most easily show the light present in every twist of the brush (like spirit fingers). I have a friend that's closer than a sister, and this reminds me of her. What a beautiful collection of treasures called words that you shared here. Helped made me feel more centered, yet it did have a poignancy of truth. Use your best china daily. Here's mine: Thank You.

I love this Gramma, but a word of advice and constructive critiscism this rhyme is a bit forced i recommend you fix it up a bit.

Beautiful
...there is nothing like an object to prompt the memory. I was there with you in this for just a moment. There a sunny day and a wonderful breezy moving past the kitchen table and even over the grassy meadow. -
Worth It
This was lovely and very sweet, I love the way you described the art of hosting. Nothing like a visit from an old friend or loved one to make our day just a bit brighter.
Here's to friendships,

Put the kettle on
Having read all the reviews for this lovely poem, I don't think I could add anything more.Only when you have tried to write poety do you realise how difficult it can be and this makes me marvel all the more at your skill. I feel as though I have been to a vertual Tea Party with a very special person

A wonderful piece of work telling a friend how much you look forward to having their company and how you cherish their presence. Everything abnout this piece gave it a very homely feeling, one filled with all the care and honesty that a host would want to dish onto a much welcomed guest. Your yard and your home, a delight to behold in write. Just super. Thanks for the wonderful read.

-
Rose, I know I already read this one, but there is something so special about this write of yours. I forgot about it until I came to your page to see if you had anything new to read. This poem makes me feel like I'm the special guest (even though, wasn't this about someone from your past?) An old friend? anyway I still love this write of yours. it will forever be timeless!!

Imagery complete ...
and the thought of such a visit has crossed my mind many times. That old friend and the days of catching up - where a certain energy fills the air and one that is duplicated by nothing better. I loved your poem and I'm still waiting for my old friend to come to my location as well! j

Hey, Rose, this poem is a great combination of said and unsaid emotions... i love the detail here and as i said i am speechless, my silence is my applause.
Methinks poetry pre exists language, it is upto the artist to make it glow through the words... that's what you have accomplished here.
Great!!! {and when i said this, my computer nodded in approval} -

Good job this is amazing, this is just beautiful, in my eyes this poem means alot about ur friend, which is just beautiful. Great Write!
-
amazing mom, you have outdone yourself with this one! You are right though, having a guest over in this day and age is nothing like what it was at time, and it is a time and place that is sorely missed. Great write, mom.
the only thing I noticed that could be changed is a tiny typing error in the 3rd to last line:
"I'll tearly say adieu"
tearly should be tearfully? -
Some very lovely imagery you have created with your words. Sounds like a very warm and inviting place set in very beautiful surroundings. Very nicely done. Take care and Have fun. Steve

really touching
This created many feeklings for me, as i do not have any close friends. Its been that way, since the war, so have always been a bit jealous of ones that have such a closeness. I know I keep ones away, but its my way with dealing with life.

Beautiful my dear
Wow, today I have come across a very nice poem with lots of imaginations. This poem is the witness of the great ability of its creator for penning no for painting this.. more like weaving the poem with threads of pictures. I just wonder if I could see all of this in actual if I were a guest of this home. My favorite stanza surely goes to this part:
“Amassed with color
My flower bed
With peonies, and lilies
So fair, and many other
Perennials will woo you
Their strong scents
Will fill the air!”
Thank you dear Rosemary for sharing and good luck in the contest :-)

Outstanding
I thought this poem had a simple charm and I loved the flow of imagery, especially the lines:
They are like angels
Holding out their arms for all
I liked the romantic, lyrical feel of this poem, the choice of language and visual impact. A wonderful poem to read.
-
Enchanting!
Simply Beautiful! I wanna come visit!
This poem should make anyone who reads it yearn to visit this particular paradise on Earth. This sounds Heavenly. You have painted a wonderful landscape, atmosphere, watercolor of life... with these words. Absolutely breathtaking is this poem I especially liked the passage regarding the "spruces that are angels". I had a huge spruce in front of my former home (the one where we raised our children) and one night, I envisioned it to be the biggest angel I had eve seen, there to protect and keep my family. I can so relate to that passage. I loved this entire work. It reminds me of "down home hospitality" Excellent! I wish you the very best in the challenge.
Much Love & Many Blessings & HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Renee

I liked this one alot Rose. It was simple for the reader which is always a good thing but at the same time it portrayed so much excitement and anticipation from the writer's standpoint that it became exceptional. A very good look at a time of hosting gone by that hopefully some will still enjoy during this season.

Poems like these are so refreshing to read. Simple, yet it leaves the reader wanting for nothing. The scene is laid out in front of us and the reader feels as though they are apart of this visit. Well done.
