Famous Last Words

Famous Last Words

Before we go to Paradise by way of Kensal Green,
Tread softly, because you tread on my dreams,
And miles to go, before I sleep.

He rose the morrow morn,
Not with a bang but a whimper;
And out of his two eyes two great tears rolled, like stones,
and he died.

And not waving but drowning
The earth exhales.

And I eat men like air –
‘what a nice way to go’ death,
To eat the world’s due, by the grave and thee.
For nothing now can come to any good.
Good night ladies, good night, sweet ladies, good night, good night.

Darkness on the lost bride and her groom:
That on himself such murderous shame commits.

Time was away and she was here
To burst into fulfilment’s desperate attic.

The page is printed
Thou shouldst print more, not let the copy die.
But who can bear to feel himself forgotten?
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!
Sing, agreeably, agreeably, agreeably of love
And let him hate you through the glass
Enduring, like a tree, under curious stars.

Author notes

Very deliberate plagiarism, if that isn't obvious enough! I've been playing with the 'collage' technique of bringing the words of other people together. Can I really call this 'my' poem, though? I'm not so sure, but tell me what you think.

I realized that they weren't your words, but you put them together in your own expression. Nicely done.
