The lines in the sand were deep enough,
Deep enough for me to see down
To the core of the Earth.
Many will say you can dig
All the way to China this way,
And that was my attempt,
Digging lines in the sand deep enough
To kill the time waiting for you.
You've kept me here in the sand long enough,
Where have you been all my life?
Kicking broken shells back into the waves,
Back to visit the homes they once had
On the shoulders of sea creatures
Who probably won't be so happy to see them,
Tattered and shattered as they are,
A reminder to how short life is
And how much we take for granted
While waiting, drawing lines in the sand.
You've kept here waiting, watching the shells die,
Where have you been all my life?
The last peep of the sun can be seen on the horizon
As the kids start their bonfires on the sand.
Soon there will be singing and dancing and laughing,
Enough to drown out the world and my thoughts.
Soon the tides will come in, filling the lines
The water reaching the core of the Earth to cool it,
But it will not cool my temper as I stand again,
Walking off the beach one last time, away from the sand.
You've kept me waiting longer than I can stand,
Where have you been all my life?
In a list
Please tell me what you think

Great job on this poem. It's true that so many of us waste our time waiting for stuff. Awesome!

Beautiful :)
It's brilliant. I love how you describe life being short and describe people waisting there time.. but using "drawing lines in the sand"
keep up the fantastic work.
I really enjoyed reading this piece.

lol "Other sappy stuff?" That's cute.
But this? This is beautiful, Sis! Sappy or not, I was swept away as I usually am with your work. Wonderfully written! Hugs, Patricia
