Sonnet for Gennelle

Missing image
Dare I contrast you with December's night?
You are more delicate, yet strong by far.
Fresh winds have blown or polished soft leaves bright,
And autumn's rest has come with evening star.

How you have witnessed chill in shades of clouds;
Cold tears have streamed on cheeks from Heaven's face;
Deep fogs from mortal eyes the moon enshrouds;
And you all mystery and Beauty's trace.

Know: each bleak winter's eve shall never gloom
Nor smother your sweet silent times of tryst.
The morning glows with Calla Lily bloom;
No dying loves are seen in lifting mist.

So, fly to celebrate your Day, my friend.
I truly pray your loves will never end.

    Awww! This is just adorable! I love the sonnet form, and it can easily compare to Shakespeare, in my opinion. Keep it up, please, it is truly excellent.

    Another hood wink from The Poetic Bandits. What a lovely sonnet you have created with these lines - wonderful flow, great presentation and such lovely sentiments expressed for this wonderful anniversary occasion. Great gold winner with great rhythm and rhyme. I love Calla lilies too - very beautiful flower, beautiful poem. Congratulations.

    You've been hood-winked!

    Very pretty. I liked how you opened it up with a sort of spin on Shakespeare. Very nicely said.

    Flows like a smooth red wine...

    Not being any expert on the sonnet, I won't even begin to attempt an in-depth critique ~ but suffice to say that this particular sonnet was an absolute pleasure to read. I have come across those whose creators have struggled perceptibly with 'padding' to fit the syllable count but here, the flow is a delight, and the content enlivens the imagination with a touching power.

    I'm sure Gennelle must be thrilled . This is quite beautiful!

    Kindest regards, Lou x

    Return Congratulations

    As you know, I love classical sonnets, especially Shakespeare's, and so you earn admiration on these two points - then go on to praise a beautiful lady, recognising that her depth is hard-won. This is an excellent and deserving winner.

    I thank Kari & Gennelle *hug*s

    And all of those who commented beautifully as well as the other contenders. I am not a writer of sonnets. I guess, here and there, some have to come out reasonably well. I am delighted to have gained Gold with some august company for competition.

    I see she is moved, as well she should be, by this stirring sonnet. I really like the way you touch the senses of the reader and render all the subtle hints of love.

    Sincerely,

    This is such an elegant sonnet for an elegant lady! Just simply amazing to receive a sonnet of such high honor. I visualize this encased in a lovely frame adorned with lily petals. ♥

      Belle, thank you so much. I shall 'do' one for you on your 25th. I know that you are too young to have had it.
      Seriously, I do take your comment to heart. Ron

    Shall I compare thee .. to the Bard himself?

    Oh my! What an exquisitely written and stunning tribute, my dear friend - I'm deeply touched, honoured and amazed! This is a beautifully inspired complement and bow to Old Will's Sonnet XVIII, indeed.

    To inspire something like this is the highest compliment imaginable and greatly appreciated.
