Tulip

T otally digusting wretch
depraived and filthy whore
No merit, no goodness, no value at all
Deserving breath no more

U nmerited favor pouring out
Not for any work or deed
But for God's glory and this wretch's soul
Christ on the cross did bleed

L imited to some who did not deserve
as Christ redeemed creation
And before the throne of Almighty God,
Atonement and justification

I rresistable mercy and grace
His children respond to his call
and His irresistable open arms
calls us back to Him when we fall

P erserverance to the end
all fears I may disband
And though I stumble and though I fall
I am safe in my Father's hand.

Author notes

Just coming to grips with the doctrine of Calvinism, a poem that uses the summary acronymn TULIP (Total Depravity, Unconditional Election, Limited Atonement, Irresistable Grace and Perserverance of the Saints)

love the end...stumbling and falling are familiar feelings. but so is the feeling that, after everything, God is still there and he still loves you. the poem is a cool story progression, and I'm not too familiar with Calvinism or the TULIP thing, but I like that it mirrors a person's own journey. :-) very nice!
