Halt Child Slavery Post Page

Halt Child Slavery Post Page

The last addaline mysteriously lost
where committed activists paid a cost
but arise again we post for children
what new poems and addresses within.

Place what you can and tell the world to rise
and to end child slavery comprised
of abuse in labor and in the heart
change the world by use of prosaic arts.

Next Tuesday President Bush will set out his top priorities for the year when he delivers his annual State of the Union address to Congress.

We need your help to make sure the President emphasizes the urgency of ending the crisis in Darfur in his speech.

    Boy child slaves freed...

Boy missing since 2002 found alive
    POSTED: 9:55 p.m. EST, January 12, 2007
Story Highlights• Second boy, missing since Monday, also rescued from apartment
    • Suspect arrested, charged with first-degree kidnapping
    • Boys appear to be healthy and are back with families, sheriff says
    • Officers serving warrant noticed truck matching witness description

    Adjust font size:
ST. LOUIS, Missouri (CNN) -- Two missing Missouri boys, one of them missing since 2002, were found alive in a Kirkwood, Missouri, apartment, and a suspect was arrested, Franklin County Sheriff Gary Toelke said Friday.

Shawn Hornbeck, 15, of Richwoods, Missouri, was last seen riding his bike to a friend's house in October 2002. Richwoods is about 60 miles south of St. Louis.

William Ben Ownby, 13, had been missing since Monday. He was last seen after getting off his school bus in Franklin County, near St. Louis.

Both boys appear to be healthy and have been reunited with their families, Toelke said.

"Obviously there's some very happy people that were here," he said.

Thursday night, two police officers in suburban Kirkwood went to a residence at the apartment complex to serve an unrelated warrant, Toelke told reporters. While there, they noticed a rusty white Nissan pickup truck that matched the description of that sought in the Ownby case and took photos of it. (Watch how police found the boys )

"That resulted in the recovery," Toelke said.

Michael J. Devlin, 41, was arrested and has been charged with one count of first-degree kidnapping, said Franklin County Prosecutor Robert Parks. Devlin was being held on $1 million bail, he said, and more charges are likely.

Hornbeck identified himself to officers, Toelke said. He said Hornbeck's appearance had changed so much since he disappeared that Toelke didn't recognize him.

"He looked like he'd probably grown quite a bit. He was a little taller and his hair was darker," he said.

"I'm sure the parents would have recognized him, but if he'd have walked into the office I don't know that I would have."

Video footage taken at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office showed both boys exiting a vehicle. Ownby's relatives met him at the sheriff's office, and police were notifying Hornbeck's family, Toelke said. (Watch the boys being escorted into the building )

He said officers brought the boys Twinkies and doughnuts after they arrived at the sheriff's office.

Investigators rejoiced at the break in the case.

"All of us have been on Cloud 9," Toelke said at an outdoor news conference in heavy rain. "The last four days, and the things we've gone through ... You know, you have to face the family every day and tell them, 'Well, we haven't had any luck yet,' and that wears on you.

"And then you have something like this happen -- there's nothing to describe it, really."

Authorities divulged few details regarding the recovery, the investigation or the suspect.

"There's a lot of things that we don't know right now," Toelke said.

But he called the recoveries a "complete surprise. ... To have two endings like this is just unbelievable."

Chris Diamond, who shortly after the disappearance in 2002 co-founded the Shawn Hornbeck Foundation for families of missing children, told CNN's Larry King that the foundation's volunteers were ecstatic.

"Hundreds and hundreds of volunteers have helped search. We have scoured so many acres and acres of areas. We have tips from all over the country. We have just searched for him and we've never given up."

"There's kind of a gut feeling," Diamond added. "I had a feeling that hopefully one day we would have the kind of reunion that we're having tonight."

    Fight Child Slavery

    Rotten Dreams

    They take the little ones

    Soft as a fontanel

They take the girls and sons

And make their life a hell

    Innocent children stolen

    Sweet as they can be

    Starved till guts are swollen

    Sold in slavery

    Threatened with a blade

    They take away their hopes

    Little minds afraid

    Tightly bound with ropes

    People turn their backs

    Pretend that they don’t see

    Kids fall through the cracks

It won’t hurt you and me

    Finally come the saviors

    A Muslim and a Jew

    Changing our behaviors

    We need your help too

And just when I thought mankind's insanity and cruelty could not go any further, I came across an article that brutally perverts any perception of man's alledged good nature:

    http://www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/if_chapter2.htm

This world can barely sink any deeper than is already the case. We have disearned the self-appointed title of humanity and of man kind. Man has become an insult to life itself. It is with disgust and shame I enter this reply to your ongoing campaign to try to make this world a better place for all. In particular for the young ones who should be able to live care free and enjoy life. I wish you much acclaim and help in the good things you do. Take care,

    U

child slavery is awful and it needs to stop, is believe that companies that sell thier products or goods in this country should abide by the same laws in other contries like they have to do here. So companies like Walmart need to shop using sweat shop labor. Is it so awful and I fear that it may never change.

    some info about Darfur

    Dear Jeannette,

On Sunday December 10th, as part of UN World Human Rights Day, activists in cities around the world will hold demonstrations in front of the Sudan's embassies to "Raise the Alarm" on Darfur. We have called on communities of faith to participate through the "Weekend of Prayer and Action," December 8th-10th.

I would like to invite you to participate in this weekend's important activities by asking your house of worship to add its name to an urgent sign-on letter to President Bush.

Click here to sign up to participate in the Weekend of Prayer and Action for Darfur.

We hope to use this weekend to bring diverse communities of faith together in calling on the president to take immediate action to stop the genocide in Darfur.

In particular, we hope to raise awareness of the horrific situation women and girls face every day in Darfur.

Women and girls as young as 8 years old are being raped and sexually assaulted by the Janjaweed on a daily basis as part of a calculated strategy of genocide.

They live in constant fear of attack. Even routine tasks such as searching for firewood have become perilous for them.

Please ask your house of worship to sign on to the letter urging President Bush to act immediately to end these atrocities. Click here to let us know if you plan to ask the leaders of your house of worship to add its name to the letter.

You will be joining hundreds of thousands of concerned people around the world who will be calling on their respective leaders to act for the people of Darfur.

Please forward this message to your friends and family and invite them to join you in participating in this effort.

Thank you again for your dedication.

    Best regards,

    David Rubenstein

I am all for what you are doing.

If you check my sight, you will find I am not good at writing poems to order. That is why I go in few contests. It is just me. However, Janet, I do wish this endeavor the very best. Your cause is just and the situation shocking. Laborers in Australia are under employed because companies go offshore for cheap labor, with a big percentage done by children. Worse than pre 1832 in Industrial Britain.

Horrendous, a word fitting at best
All work, little pay and no rest
Those children that work from dawn to dusk
With treatment harsh and often brusque
They have no sunshine in their lives
A glimmer of light when paytime arrives
Nothing more can give them hope
They have to work so family can cope
What we throw away on food alone
is more then they would ever own
We need to help, stop this horrible crime
We need to donate, even only a dime
Hoards of companies use kids this way
Even chocolate is filled with dismay
Read this link, see if you wish for more
