Dorothy Starr: Part One

They have names
like elm trees
old, tired and
elegant

A bore, despite the
sound of china
clinking
when you stopped
to say them slow

It wouldn't be so bad,
just to sleep
under the roof
of elm trees

And the porcelain teacups,
would sound nice
in the morning
if the birds still chirped
so far
out here

It's too bad, that I know
that trees don't have names
like porcelain
and that they don't ask
how your day went
when they were there
all along

I would know an elm tree
probably like it better, too
than ancient parents
foster parents
because I know what fossils are.

Author notes

I'm proud of it, but that doesn't mean I don't want constructive criticism.

It's due tommorrow, hun. I'm unlikely to get an editor as kind as you, though. How's yours coming, by the way?
