Coming Home

Well their coming home
The war is finally done
The last soldiers
Just got on the plane
Children laugh and mothers cry
The wives just dream

Will the rat a tat tat
And the boom boom boom
Be heard today
Will God cry
Will you shed a tear
For those we lost
Throughout the years
Will the Rat a tat tat
And the Boom boom boom
Be heard today

Congress has declared
A day of celebration
America, stands on the run way
No more coffins will return
God bless us all

Will the rat a tat tat
And the boom boom boom
Be heard today
Will God cry?
Will you shed a tear?
For those we lost
Throughout the years
Will the Rat a tat tat
And the Boom boom boom
Be heard today

Will the rat a tat tat
And the boom boom boom
Be heard today
Will poets write?
Of the hero's tales
Their majesty
Their sacrifice
Will the Rat a tat tat
And the Boom boom boom
Be heard today

Author notes

read this once where the Rat a tat tat is a drum in a band
Then read it again where the Rat a tat tat is machine Guns and the Booms are bombs.

It is both a celebration and a warning, I got the idea for a comment on an earlier poem, Did I pull it off, Comment on both if you don't mind

Now this is a very powerful write!!

You very effectively get this point across with the repititons af artillary going off, that is the constant reminder for our troops at war. Bush, sometimes ago gave the impression the war in Iraq was over, or so I thought untill again recently i viewed him ther on that ship, where he said major combat was over in Iraq. With all of our troops still over there, it's always been clear around the world major combat never really ceased. What else would anyone else call so many of our brave women and men in uniform??
In the very first weeks I was for the war. After we caught Saddam, that should have been a strong sign for this administration that we finished what we had come to do. To remove him as a wdm threat. That was the original mission according to this administration. my personal belief is that this administration will simply NOT admit mistakes and take on any real responsibility for those mistakes. Afghanistan should have been this war's true stomping ground, not one to appease the warhawks!! Yet, this is exactly what took place and the world KNOWS this. I support ALL of our troops, sadly, I cannot say the same for our commander n' chief. Any how yours is a very provocative write!!!

    truly a great write!!!

Oh what a happy day this will be when they all return home, yet at the same time, we must be aware of the effects of the war, on them, mentally and physically. You did a wonderful job. I seeh ow the story is diffrent when it is read twice. Great idea my friend!! You are a great inspiration to me. GBY

    thought provoking

yes, charlie, you definately have pulled it off. hopefully people will remember those who gave their life for this cause as long or longer as they have from WW2. the band is for victory in LIFE. i have never been in a war so i cant say personally . all i can go on is what my Godson and nephew and cousins have told me .they were there. this is a wonderful write charlie. i am going to print this off to keep in my notebook of favorite poems. not many people can write a message that has a dual purpose. very challenging to do and yet you made it look so easy.

But will this ever really happen? And how will the soldiers be when they return? I have never been to war so I don't know but I can't imagine the images left behind in their poor weakened minds and hearts I only hope that when they do return it will be to open arms and hearts for it is becuase of all of the troops that I sit here writing. awesome dedication!

    Stunning

Did you pull it off? Definitely. It actually changes the meaning somewhat depending in which context you are reading it. This is actually very interesting as I never realised that this was possible.

Of course the underlying message stays the same. People have died and many a crying, will we forget as we have forgotten in the past. Will there be a purpose to all this bloodshed? I hope so.

A great poem to get the mind thinking and questions asked.

    Well done.

I think you did pull it off, I find within your words celebration of peaces as families welcome home loved ones and a country relaxes as peace comes, I also get the warning as if it for how long will we have this peace.(silence)

    Well written

How bad is this fighting habbis of humans
War in the name of god war for pride
War for crazy fun, Yes war is really bad
Let me remind some lines of an ancient Indian prayer
"Let there be peace in me,
Let there be peace around me
Let there be peace in the elements that affects me"
Yes the sliest problems affecs our peaceful environment - Well as you quoted in your poem let us come back home and forge abou the painful war

    With Love
