Linear

I drew him
just as he stood
before light faded;
before time resumed

I caught him
unaware...wistful.
Captured the slope
of his shoulder.

The bend of his arm.
The hang of his trousers
wrinkled at his knee.
The angle of his foot.

And though
I could not see his face
I knew the exact
shade of his eyes;

the look on his face
at that exact moment.
I could read his thoughts
and the trail they followed.

A light outline
quickly sketched before
the world drew him outside himself
and he continued with his day.

    interesting how one can see the features of people that are known intimately...
    yet time rearranges things whether we want it or not.
    Interesting perspective!
    Keep penning on one stroke at a time!

    Wonderful. It reminds me of a time I was walking down a crowded street and brushed past someone and looked up. They weren't remarkably memorable, but I remember suddenly everything about the woman sticking in my mind - the creases in her clothes to the creases around her eyes.

    This poem described that perfectly. Just when everything stops and it seems like it could last forever, even when the moment itself is nothing special.

    The picture you drew drew me right in. Wondering if anyone can look so deeply inside another that they can actually see what they are thinking. Beautiful thoughts they are too. I like the linear progression of this people observation.

      Some people, I think, have a gift for that..perhaps only with certain other people. Thank you, Leo for reading, commenting and for applauding.

    A lovely moment frozen in time. Tiz sad sometimes how life can take or I guess more specifically "rearrange" moments, like your last two line say. From the introspective to the outer, from the inner calm to the soon wild world around us.

    When I first saw the title I thought the second line was gonna be...deep within me...for I was thinking in terms of drawing a breath instead of the drawing a portrait, so the surprise was even more welcome.

      Funny, but sometimes quick sketches better capture a moment than a meticulous detailed drawing. More the suggestion of the person on the page. Thank you, Eddy for reading and for the comment. You know I always appreciate your visits. And Happy Holidays to you, as well. Cold here, finally!
