Here is a match, to shed knowing
in this one small corner of the yearning
that might keep one warm enough
long enough to have a vision
of mapping latitudes and longitudes,
mountains, prairies, seas, that rotate
on this round blue ball we call home
in the bowl of Universe.
Here is a candle to feed this cold loneliness
in cold passages of eons of ice ages
since I have seen the reflection of god’s face
in the gray glare of a cloud-covered eye
that might have looked kindly
at fossil and bone in old stone
hidden in farmer’s fields, or deep caves,
where there was no previous sign of life
in these dark places that have become home.
Here is a fire to light a forest, dry as tinder,
rattling in death throes of another fall
that might cook meat or eat inhabitants
that have huddled here, in the dark
foraging for what could sustain them
in the long wait, forsaken of your face
but having faith enough to strike
and make a small beacon to help
lead the great god home.

no matter how deep the feeling of abandonment, there is the "perhaps" of being saved..and we light another beacon

Wondrous penning...
"but having faith enough to strike and make a small beacon to help lead the great god home." Sighhh...Your spiritual songs are such tender offerings of Mercy & Grace, my Sister...I find such solace in your incredible, indelible words, Carol...Good luck in the contest, Sweetie...

This is such a deeply thought provoking and inspiring write... Faith is a powerful thing; to have hope in something greater than yourself - and to believe enough in yourself to trudge onward and face what tomorrow may bring. A beautiful piece; truly enlightening! Thank you so much for entering! Best wishes!

thank you
Yes, and what I find so interesting is that we seem to , when in the deepst dark palce we can be, do not consider the definitions or realms of a prescribed god...but an all-loving higher power that becomes personal.
I appreciate you comments.

Hope springs eternal,it's true. The living psyche is a survivalist no matter how weakened it's state.A fact you've illuminated with the bright beacon shining through in this piece.Wonderfully posed and composed.~~~Susean
