My Mask

I wear a mask
A mask of laughter
Of Happiness and joy
This mask hides
My pain and emotions
From the world
It protects me
From more hurt
It shields questions
I dare not take it off
Unless I am alone
Though my mask
Protects me from others
It can't never protect me
From my own pain and emotions

thanks for entering my contest, your poem's great, but unfortunately it doesn't follow the rules. it needs to have the title 'Behind the/my mask'. you can either change the title, or enter a new poem. thanks

Been there done that and am still doing it. I know that mask intimately and wish and pray one day to take it off and throw it away. But I fear that day will never come. Thank you for this write it hit very closely to home. Thank you so much for sharing.

sounds like you ripped off "We Wear the Mask" by Paul Laurence Dunbar and didn't do an all together good job of doing it. People seemed only to like it due to the topic of what is was written on and not from the format. If you didn't rip off this poem then sorry I brought it up, I just felt this was a poorly written knock off

This is great! I love poems like this, I can really relate to how you are feeling so don't worry you aren't alone in feeling like this. The simplicity of the poem suits the emotional content. Well done this is a really good poem.

    Beautiful

You have written a wonderful poem here. It has fluid flow and speaks of so much of who you are. But masks can hurt more than help, for if we always are hiding then the one meant to find us cannot.

I have felt this way and then one day I removed my mask and I could breathe freely and love walked into my life without me even looking.

    Be careful of the mask.

A great write and much enjoyed.

I agree.....We all wear a mask, because we are afraid of what others might think if they new the true "us".

    great idea

i think that every person in this world wears a mask. the problem is that you cant see behind everyones so its assumed that the person has just the best life, whatever.. thats all bullshit.. everyone wears a mask and what makes you above others is the fact that you know you're wearing a mask and others dont... appreciate that you know who you are, cuz most cant... its nice to know you can take off your mask when your write though.. its great to crawl into others minds everyonce in a while and get out of my own! ;-) keep writing, i like em!
